What I Wish I Knew About Dementia is a community engagement project developed by Alzheimer’s Society to create a safe and welcoming space for people to share experiences, ask questions and reflect on what they wish they had known about dementia earlier.

At the heart of the project are reflection boards, which invite people to contribute thoughts, questions, advice and lived experiences. The boards encourage open conversations and capture the voices of people affected by dementia, including people living with the condition, carers, family members, professionals and community members who want to learn more. By sharing real stories and perspectives, the project helps make dementia more human, relatable and better understood. People can engage in whatever way feels comfortable to them, whether by adding a reflection, reading others’ contributions or simply learning more about the topic.

The project concludes with a community event featuring lived experience speakers and local support organisations. These events provide opportunities for learning, discussion and signposting to services available in the local area. By bringing people together to share experiences and learn from one another, What I Wish I Knew About Dementia helps raise awareness, challenge misconceptions and support the development of more dementia-friendly communities.

For more information or to get involved contact Devna Vickerman, Alzheimer's Society

Email: Devna.Vickerman@Alzheimers.org.uk

Charlotte Toal, Alzheimer’s Society

Email: Charlotte.Toal@Alzheimers.org.uk
