This is to encourage Chinese businessmen, such as the Shaw Brothers and other businessmen, to operate gambling dens at the amusement parks. As these dens were prevented from raids, the brightly-lit lights does a good job in attracting more people to become gamblers. The dens were often crowded with gamblers, gambling whole-heartedly. The popularity of the gambling dens amongst the people then had helped the Japanese members earned a weighty amount of cash from the income collected and accumulated from the gamblers as they applied tax and license fees for people who visits the gambling dens."
Website URL: http://eresources.nlb.gov.sg/infopedia/articles/SIP_1044_2006-06-01.html?s=gay%20world

The Japanese Occupation changed the lives of teenagers then tremendously.

For change in school life, before the Japanese Occupation, the teenagers attented english schools, everything they learnt was in english, including the national anthem and the way they are expected to speak. While during the Japanese Occupation, they had to change and learn a different language, Japanese. Also, the Japanese changed the material used for teaching.

For change in leisure: before the Japanese Occupation, the teenagers style of recreational activities is to visit the gay world enjoying there. While during the Japanese Occupation, Gay world and the other worlds were turned into gambling dens, benefiting the Japanese, but leaving the teenagers with no place to enjoy.

For change in food, before the Japanese Occupation, the teenagers were given an adequate amount and variety of food. While during the Japanese Occupation, food was scarce, the prices of the food were increased tremendously. The Japanese controlled the food and distributed them unfairly, treating themselves as the priorities. People started planting their own crops, they ate lots of vegetables and had little meat and fish.

For change in relationships between the different races, before the Japanese Occupation, the teenagers were already distant among the races, as they were new to one another. While during the Japanese Occupation, they became more distant as the Japanese wanted the support of the Malays and Indians, thus treating them especially well. While, the Chinese and Eurasians had to receive harsh treatments as they were of no use.

Thus, I can infer that the Japanese Occupation changes the lives of the teenagers considerably.
