Mark Wahlberg himself said in an interview "I was a big fan of Amy Adams. In fact we had the pleasure of eating together to talk about another film, and it was a bad movie that I did. She decided not to work on it. I do not want to tell you what movie. Well, okay,It was '' The Happening '
Kirk Honeycutt of The Hollywood Reporter said the film lacked "cinematic intrigue and nail-biting tension" and that "the central menace [...] does not pan out as any kind of Friday night entertainment".
Mick LaSalle wrote in his San Francisco Chronicle review that he considered the film entertaining but not scary. He commented, too, on Shyamalan's writing, opinion that, "instead of letting his idea breathe and develop and see where it might go, he jumps all over it and prematurely shapes it into a story"
James Berardinelli said the film had neither "a sense of atmosphere" nor "strong character development"; he called its environmental message "way-too-obvious and strident," gave it a star and a half out of a possible four.

Although the movie was not good reviews from the public, I consider it an engaging movie with suspense and feeling of uncertainty. Account a good story, the subject is interesting and maybe with a message. The plants are defended, the way they could, their worst enemy, humans.

Addition, it is interesting as the protagonist does not believe what the media say and decides to seek the truth on your own, through logic and scientific knowledge.

Summary

It all started in Central Park, New York, when suddenly people begin to have strange behaviors which lead them to suicide. This has three phases, the first: alterations to speak, the second: the physical disorientation and third: suicide. It was initially believed to be an act of bioterrorism group, but soon begins to be other hypotheses.

The teacher Elliot Moore (Mark Wahlberg) Institute of Philadelphia decides to investigate the events and away from the city with his wife, her friend and daughter of this. In the course they meet with another group of people who are also trying to escape a sort of neurotoxin released by plants, and that is in the air. This substance is a method of defense and Elliot concludes that how bigger the group of people, faster attack.
