Says: This quote graphically discribes the brutal murder of two of Odysseus's very own men. This quote also used an intense epic simile when discribing the killing of his men.

Means: This is important because it proves that even in the most intense situations, Odysseus is still able to stay calm and focused. If any other ordinary person witnessed the horrible and bloody murder of a close compainion, they would go crazy, but not Odysseus. Means: This quote is saying that Odysseus is planing on traveling to the Island by himself to see how the cyclopes really acts. He goes to the Island with only 12 of his men because he doesn't want to risk the safety of his men on the ship.

Matters: When he makes this choice, he is being extremely selfless and brave. He doesn't want to get his men hurt in the line of battle.
