I believe that fiction functions as an important and underappreciated facilitator of humanity. For so long people have found their voices or have had help in understanding themselves through the speculum of storytelling, but have at the same time disparaged those who undertake a career in fictive artistry as being "out of touch" or "taking an easy route"; I want to create fiction because I want to engage with the world and with the compendium of human experience as well as to try to create an understanding of why storytelling is so important to us as a society. I have always believe in the fact that stories at their most base function act as a machine to generate empathy, and so it is important to me that the course of my creative career follows this path of edification.

I'd like to balance fiction writing with a career in an editorial capacity at one one of the major literary magazines or publishers, so as to both advance my own professional standing as well as contribute to the national literary and cultural climate.
