During the Great Depression African Americans were laid off from there jobs and suffered from an unemployment rate two to three times that of whites. African Americans also received less aid and were also excluded from soup kitchens. Even through all of that African Americans made a movement called " Jobs for Negroes" that boycotted chain stores that had black customers but only hired whites. Later even more groups were formed to fight the current situation. Many organizations helped African Americans find jobs and low cost housing.
