Choose 3 Formalist Lens Questions to respond to. Your responses should thoroughly respond to the prompt in at least three sentences.

1) How might readers in different time periods or of different ages interpret the text?

-Readers that are adults may reflect on their own family experiences, on their parenting skills, and also relationships by this it may help them understand and also really appreciate their own family even more.

2) Choose a significant event that occurs in your reading. What do you think the author's purpose was in telling that part of the story?

-I chose when the mom (Rose Mary) put her daughters Jeannette for a raffle to fly in a helicopter and took her place. I think the author's purpose when he was telling this part is maybe trying show us how some moms can be selfish and use their daughter to be able to get things for themselves instead of their daughter getting or their kids in general.

3) Which behaviors of the characters are conscious ones?

    - Jeannette behavior as the oldest sibling is that she took over the role and trys providing stability and also support for her siblings.

Both of my parents care.

  - What did you learn about a character or group of people that you have not personally experienced?

Something I learned about the mom that I have never experienced is my mom not caring about or us or anybody's mom I've met they all care about their kids. They care so much about their kids unlike the mom in the book not even caring about her kids, she doesn't care if they even die.

She's really not a good mom and sometimes never around lets her kids be more free. Cares more about herself and her art.

Who was speaking?

I chose this quote "She felt it was good for her kids to do what they wanted...mom was not of those fussy mothers...she said people should get things like that out of their systems when they were young." In the story this was when Rose Mary the mom of Jeannette was saying that she would rather have her kids doing whatever even if it might be dangerous. Rose Mary was speaking.

Why did this quote stand out to you?

This quote stood out to me because it shows how Rose Mary is as a mother and how she doesn't really care about her kids.
