Synopsis:

-In 1984 Winston works at the "Ministry of Truth". Secretly despises the system ajd its leader, Big Brother, and commits what they call "thought-crimes." Gets caught by The Party and tortured/brainwashed and sent back into world becoming "normal" again. We realise that he is a shell of his former self and now loves The Party and Big Brother

Person 1 stands on box while other 3 stand around them. The scene plays out as planned (person on box explains how society was better when people were normal and followed “routines”. Possible mention of Elvis Presley/musicians corrupting the youth and the women. On word routine pulls his hands up and the others raise as if they have been pulled up by strings. Move forwards as person 1 moves their hands forwards, etc.) Topics which the 3 people talk about: -Woman= serve on the front lines, Vietnam, Korea (Only able to in 2016) -Men= work as midwife, helping women who need it (Only able to in 1984) -Teens= didn't do very well in 11 plus exam and forced to attend technical school so couldn’t do what they wanted to do (11 plus abolished in 1976)

The Ideal Citizen repeats everything said by the speakers, slowly melting like a fragile fake. Alexander and Maria begin by repeating some things, before beginning to disagree and stake their claim as to who they are.

3 people stand on boxes. The sound of a powering on system plays as all 3 raise their heads. All 3 have large fake smiles. A voice begins to speak from a recording.

Voice: I am happy with my place in the world

As Maria and Alex begin to defy the words, Ideal Citizen begins melting, revealing how fake he is

Alex: I will not marry the opposite sex. I am proud of who I am, no matter how much hate I see

Voice: I will not express myself

Ideal Citizen: I will no- (interrupted again)

Maria & Alex: We will express ourselves. We will stand against expectations

Voice: I will take a normal job

Alex: (Sternly) I am Alexander McQueen. I want to be a fashion designer and so I will be so.

Voice: (Louder) I WILL OBEY

Ideal Citizen is now fully melted on the floor
