(Quote : "Zor! Now!" the voice commanded. Zor aimed and squeezed the trigger. The short rat-a-tat echoed off the nearby buildings. The few pedestrians around made themselves even scarcer. Couldn't be any doubt in the guards' minds now-the convoy's cover was blown. The burst had pierced through the armor of the car in front and decomished the engine. Little SMG did the trick after all. Zor looked at it in surprise. The Militech M221 Saratoga wasn't the flashiest iron out there, but the increased impact velocity from its tungsten rounds made short work of most light armor. Sure, the gun would be useless after a few bursts, but that was beside the point.) Zor and the other main protagonists of the story are setup to do a heist due to being held under black mail which led to these people needing to do this operation. The heist involved stealing a convoy from a corporation called militech which by all means should've had a zero percent success rate. This quote details Zor's attempt to shoot the the guards armored truck with a basic smg that by all means shouldn't have been able to penetrate it, but manages to somehow. Zor hasn't been in this line of work for over 7 years but due to his poor circumstances, is forced to undergo a heist with minimal gear and is barley lucky to actually get it done. This quote helps demonstrate the level of desperation the people in night city manage to stumble themselves into due to the life of the city. Zor being suprised that a sub par smg managed to save his life when in all situations should've not worked he pierced the truck. Zor and the ragtag group assembled to do this heist due to steal a convoy from one of the top corporations is a suicide attempt which should've been prepped for better shows the unlucky circumstances most residents have to face. However, it also helps show the little hope in the city. The smg working and stopping the quards truck despite all the setbacks previously mention helps show the little hope there is in surving in this city.

(Quote : "Same as always." Crispy rose to her feet. "You know some clients have a thing for 'ganics, right? Got folks comin' here just for you."

"Guess that's a good thing, right?" Aya removed her pink wig and began peeling off her fake lashes. "Already scrolled two BDs this month."

Crispy rose and stopped just behind her chair, looking at her with those unnaturally large eyes. Maybe once upon a time they looked good on the stage, back when she used to dance. She was retired now, but the eyes stayed, made her look like an old child. She unclipped Aya's long black hair and started slowly brushing it.

"Mm-hmm. 'Cept sometimes they want more than just a dance, more than braindance. Feel me?"

"I never agreed to that." Aya took the brush from her. She began to

quickly remove her eyeshadow.

"People change; deals change. Gotta stay ahead of the curve if you wanna earn your keep. You of all people should know that."

"I have boundaries."

"Ain't boundaries meant to be pushed?" Crispy laid a hand on her shoulder. "Don't hear the other girls complainin'."

Aya didn't finish wiping off her pink lipstick. She threw on her jacket and made for the door. Crispy didn't stop her.

"Remember, honey, you may be 'ganic, but you ain't innocent. So do us all a favor and quit actin' like you're some goddamn saint."

Aya pushed the door open and headed toward the exit.)

This quote isn't stated to be before or after the main group of protagonists go on the heist, but this quote shows a snitbit of life of one of the main characters, Aya. Before the heist, Aya was a sex worker, a far more common job for people in the future now as depravity is able to reach much higher magnitudes due to technology. This quote shows her rejecting a certain client due to him overstepping her boundries. Her employer scolds her and says that she is being a goodie two shoes and that none of the other employees care. This quote helps show the cruelty and dystopianism of night city. Sex workers being a more common job helps show the level of depravity the world has stooped to, not to mention the way these workers are treated. The industry as demonstrated by their conversation, does not value boundaries and comfort for the workers. Work situations like this in the real world would be much easier to regulate and moderate but not in Night city. In a world where corporations are more in power than the world government, anything to make and extra buck would be permitted for the companies best interest.

(Quote : "Did you know that the water in your home could be contaminated?! With the Real Water bottled water subscription, your water will taste like the real thing! Sign up now and get your first three gallons free!")

This quote is spoken when Aya is returning back to home from a commercial on TV. Before this quote is said, we follow her journey back to her small apartment, as we take in the city's description as she walks. She talks of the passed out neighbor, laying down in the middle of the apartment hallway, the piss smelling stench, and the graffitied walls. When she finally gets home, the second she opens up her door, the TV immediately turns on and plays this add. This add helps show how dystopian this world that our characters live in. Water being so contaminated by factories and big corporations that the only solution is fake water if you want water that tastes somewhat normal is horrific. Not only that, but the water is a subscription based program. In the future, almost everything is payed via subscription, as the corporations want to drain everything out of your pockets. It is a miracle that humans can survive with all of this corperatized products forced to replace everyday needs

Quote : "I heard you're one hundred 'ganic, which you just confirmed, which is why I came all the way down here. For you. Understand?"

This quote is from Aya's current client in her strip club. So far from what we hear from Aya, she is characterized in a very human way, very dignified in the work she does, rejecting many opportunities because of her boundaries but is forced to do special work for this specific client. While initially doing it, she comes to her senses and realizes that it is not worth it and tries to get out of the situation, saying that she lacks the implants to do anything but dancing. Then he tries to say thats exactly the reason he hired her. In the world of cyberpunk, being fully human is almost like having special needs or being disabled. Almost everyone has rudimentary implants, such as improved eyes, but Aya is completely human. Her state contradicts more than just her surroundings, but more importantly her work. Before she gets signed up for another heist, she is shown to be shunned by her colleges for not having implants, saying she puts in work that's unnecessary. She has to do twice the amount of work for nothing. This shows us that the character who hired Aya for this special service is much like anyone who has money in the cyberpunk world, as those who are rich use their power to force others around them to struggle and that Night City benifits those who are ruthless and belittle people.

New's feed scrubbed any mention of it, leaving me to dig through old feeds."

This quote comes after the heist, where our main characters rob the convoy. As shown in previous pages, the heist was very gun ho and not discreate at all. Not to mention how the company robbed was a privately contracted military company. This news recorder talks about how little info there was on this. This quote helps show how strange and bizarre the heist they where contracted to do was. All members participating where very suspicious, only contracted due to having black mail. Not only that, they where hired to rob the country's private military contractor with only store bought guns. To do such a heist so loudly and to only have it scrubbed off the news shows how shady this was. The small news programmer barley being able to find info on this probably has to deal with covering many explosive gun fights and robberies, which shows the level of danger in Night City and how regular these attacks are

Quote: "Because I work at militech"

This quote is from one of the main characters named Milena. Milena was apart of the heist taking place at the beginning of the book, who played a crucial role securing the convoy, as she was a worker for militech. When blackmailed again for her initial participation for robbing her own company, she gets hired to do another heist. This quote helps demonstrate the level of cooperate dystpoianism in cyberpunk. In cyberpunk, the corperations have so much control over the world in terms of power and money, that they can force the people to bend to their wills to give them money, even subjecting their own workers to limited money. The people in cyberpunk are so in need of money, that people make money by helping stage heists against their own company for money. The level of control and suffering these companies are responsible in erase anyone's loyalty's to their company and shows little humanity at the top. These reasons show why Milena is helping the crew, outside of the black mail.

Quote: "Albert didn’t believe that mind and body were inseparable. The mind was just a tenant. Trapped."

Albert is a teenager that was picked up as a net runner for the heist. Netrunning is a really important role in the cyberpunk universe, as it involves using your brain to access the computer net as a hacker. He is employed because the group needs someone to handle security. One of these events in the heist involves uploading himself into a computer. This quote is great at explaining Alberts world view. Albert is a computer expert, and has a horrible physical appearance. Albert, after learning from many philosophers about consciousness persisting past death, he believes that becoming a digital consciousness is his goal. The body and mind being inseparable was baffling to him, as his body was everything limiting him. This might backfire, as after becoming completely digital, he maybe would learn the importance of humanity

(Quote: "What’s the prime cause of cyberpsychosis? Illegal cyberware—duh! Cheap chrome, fresh out of a Scav chop shop, reaped from all those sorryass gonks now floating in pieces in the bay, being nibbled by mutant fish or whatever the fuck’s swimming in there. That part’s true. But does it REALLY explain a pileup of that scale? Hells to the no! When corps fuck something up, they always be pointing the finger at someone else, right? Now they’re saying our choom went cyberpsycho cuz of some faulty components from a company called Unitra. Know what that means? They want to put their asses out of biz just to gobble up their shares)"

This quote is a news host "FR34k_s33k" who is discussing a recent attack caused by a "Cyber pyscho," a severe mental illness in the Cyberpunk world. Cyberpsycosis is caused by an excess amount of cybernetic implants, more so from black market cybernetics that are more dangerous. The effects of cyberpsycosis are very similar to Roid Rage, side effects one might experience taking steroids. Cyberpyschosis makes a person very violent and pyscopatheic, and identifying more with machines than man. The FR34k S33K is trying to sway people from thinking the attack that happened because of cyberpsychosis. Fr34k s33k details how common cyberpsychosis is due to the demand for illegal cyberpsychosis in night city. However, the attack they are talking about had casualties in the 20's, making it very unlikely that it was only a cyberpsychosis attack. They then state how since its so often, corperations blame a lot of mistakes and offenses on cyberpyschosis. This shows the themes of corporate control in the world of cyberpunk, as the corperations use these incidents to blame all of their mistakes on.

That was until gang members of Maelstrom, a cyborg gang tries to see the stash they've obtained. More and more of them show up and Milena and Zor have less chance of survival. To save them selves, Zors military instincts before his life change kick in. This quote shows Zor, despite having his life flipped upside down, he still holds pieces of his past. At his heart, he is a cold, determined man who needs to get the job done quick and fast as a soldier. Despite going into hiding after comitting acts of terror, he tries to save who he can. Maelstrom is a gang full of high functioning cyberpsycho6s(roid rage equivilent for cybernetic implants) and has all of its members with extreme levels of cybernetics, where they don't even have faces anymore. He makes his first appearance at this club which is owned by maelstrom. This quote is said right before he interrogates Borg, one of the main characters about the heist. This quote is meant to set expectations on how this interrogation will likely go for Borg. This quote, along with the knowledge about Dum Dum owning a club via a gang shows how bad of a situation Borg is in. Dum Dum is portrayed as very chaotic and abrasive, motivated by boredom, which is not in Borgs best interest. This quote really lets you know how things could've gone way better and how Borg is in it deep. This also goes to show the themes of Cyberpunks dystopianism elements, as someone with so many cybernetics and fortune and lack of empathy has many people like Borg at his mercy, attributing what ever happens to him as entertainment, showing the difference between the major classes of the world.

If I stay here any longer, I’ll start hating people.” And if I do that job they gave me, she thought, I’ll hate myself.

This quote comes from Aya, at her job. This takes place after the second heist that she completed where she starts showing some growth. When trying to live her normal life that she had before the heist, it didn't necessarily work. When she is scolded and demanded higher skill work before Aya objects. This quote shows Aya's conflict of the immoral and undignified world clashing with Aya's moral compass. Aya is shown continuously shown to have a very high sense of dignity when it comes to her job as a pole dancer. Her participation in both heists in the story so far make her even more dignified in who she is as a person and the level is crap she is willing to take from others. The hell hole of Night City can turn anyone into a ruthless gangster or moral-less corpo, both willing to do what ever it takes form money. Aya shows her strength by staying true to what she thinks and about how she will appreciate herself if she does things so low.

His job is to monitor data and surveillance. This is directly after the heist when the quote is said. The operators are trying to make sense of it all. This quote helps exemplify the consequences of these types of heists to the every day people of Night City, those who didn't even have anything to do with this. While our main characters are going to incredible lengths to make lots of money and to steal stuff, regular peoples lives get effected in an inconceivable amount. These at this monitoring job are very shocked to see these charts be very red. Because they are in security and surveillance, being hacked and robbed isn't the best look for these workers and most likely, they will be fired.

Quote: “Been on my own for seven years,” he said. “Just me and my thoughts— not the positive kind, either. Not the healthiest thing, I guess. Should’ve gotten over it by now, but I haven’t. I can’t. Revenge—it’s the only thing keeping me going..”

This quote takes place after the second heist, where it has Zor drinking with Aya discussing life. The page before they start drinking goes into more of Zors backstory, as he tries to reconcile with his feelings about his mothers death. In this moment, Aya and Zor have a little heart to heart about regrets when he says the quote to her. When silence falls, he tries to break it by saying this quote. In this quote, we get to understand how Zor as a person functions. We can see, time and time again, how much he doesn't want his past to get to him and how he wants to move on, but we see this trauma dragging him back, making him want revenge. He finally is able to acknowledge his motivation, let alone tell it to someone he now holds very deer to him despite only meeting them not too long ago. In this moment, we can see that this openness from Zor maybe can lead to Aya helping him be at peace.

Quote : "So, who’s actually supervising Night City’s water quality? Any guesses? A team of experts? A couple experts? One expert? A fuckin’ intern? Nah, bro. No one checks that shit. Don’t pretend like you’re gonna check it, either."

This quote is from Freak seek, the small news broadcaster played at the beginning of most chapters. This source usually covers things not often discussed by many other news programs as they are run by corpos and don't give the full story. Freak seek helps give many world building pieces as they give it to the reader straight and are very conspiracy oriented. This time, they talk about water quality. This quote helps further the themes of dystopianism and corruption in cyberpunk. In cyberpunk, the corporations hold all of the power, and to get more power and to separate themselves from the poor, basic needs like clean water gets shoved to the side as it takes too much time and effort. This seperates the rich and poor, as many rich people pay subscriptions to 3rd party clean water providers, funded outside of tax payer dollars. Not checking the water saves the people at the top time, at the common peoples expense. This also displays the low hope people who are poor have, as little to no one checks this and stay silent.
