-I did first ink drawing of some leafy plants, and this piece is my baseline example. I attempted to try to focus on texture in the drawing, but it came out kind of messy. However, I like the way it looks overall.
-Express: I am doing a decent job of expressing the texture and some values of the plant I decided to draw. Although it doesn't have as much shading as I would like, I like the cross-hatching that I chose to use. The patterns on the leaves aren't as good as I wanted either, but they are still accurate to the reference.
-Reflect: In my next piece, I plan on trying to add more texture to the plants. I also want to try to add more value to my next drawing since I didn't do a lot of it in this drawing.
-Envision: I plan on choosing more leafy plants to draw for this project. I may also draw flowers, but I'm not entirely sure what kind at the moment. I have some familiarity in drawing plants, so this will only improve my skills and will be a bit easier to draw than some other subjects would be. I will choose reference pictures and attempt to draw them in pen. These reference pictures will help me with texture and value.

-I did a less complicated drawing of a different plant. This drawing is a lot smaller and has less making it up, but I'm not happy with it.
-Engage and Persist: I was having trouble trying to finish this piece. I started losing interest in it after finishing the first leaf, and I didn't like the way it looked. However, I forced myself to finish the drawing and add more texture when needed. In my future pieces, I plan on focusing less on texture since I didn't like the way it looked in this piece and it doesn't give me any room to try to improve my shading.
-Observe: I didn't like the way this drawing came out. The lines are very messy and are too dark for my taste. They also don't represent the colors and pattern of the leaves as well as my first drawing. There is also no value in this drawing, so the picture looks pretty flat and has very little depth. It also makes the picture a bit harder to look at, for it merely looks like a big mess of leaves and lines than a plant.

-I decided to switch my focus on leaves on plants and drew a lily instead. I also started trying to add value instead of focusing primarily on texture.
-Develop Craft: Originally, I had planned on focusing primarily on texture in my pieces. I had wanted to work on my mark-making. However, I decided that I needed more work on my shading, so I focused on value in this drawing. As a result, I like this piece more than my other drawings. It looks more realistic and a bit cleaner than my other ones.
-Stretch and Explore: By working on my shading rather than my texture, this piece looks different than my other drawings. It looks more unified in its lines, which are now neater and all going in the same direction, and it also has more depth to it.

-I drew a couple of roses. I focused entirely on shading rather than trying to add texture, and it made a big difference in the way the piece came out. It looks more realistic and unified than my original sketches, and the lines are a lot easier to follow and look at than my starting drawings.
-Stretch and Explore: When doing this drawing, I tried to make my lines neater than usual. I also chose to focus on one area at a time when shading. This way, I can make sure each piece of the drawing is shaded properly and that it all matches. I also decided to work more on my hatching to improve it. As a result, my drawing has much neater values and also looks more unified than my previous drawings.
-Reflect: All in all, I think I improved on my pen-only drawings. I have less sketchy lines in my drawings and I am able to create more finalized and solid lines to my subjects without being afraid of messing them up somehow. I was also able to improve my hatching somewhat. The lines are cleaner and more unified, and they look better than the previous tries. I know that I still have to improve on my shading, but I also know that now I have more experience and perhaps more skill in the area to work with. This will make it much easier for me to continue doing it.

Even though I didn't create a lot of pieces, I think I improved and grew during this experience. I was able to work on both shading and texture in my drawings, and I was also able to improve on my ability to draw in only pen with no pencil reference beforehand. I can now try to practice other subjects in pen, and I'll have a starting place to work from. I can be more sure with my lines and will have more confidence in shading as well.
