In the play The Taming of the Shrew, by William Shakespeare, a recurring theme that is important to the plot is facade's, or disguises. Characters disguise themselves for many reasons. For example, Lucentio disguises himself to get closer to love. Tranio disguises to deceive others. The pedant dresses as Vincentio to approve of the marriage between Bianca and Lucentio. This also poses a question, do the clothes make the man. The answer has to be no because in the end all of the disguises are discovered and all fall of. With all of these disguises, Shakespeare forces the audience to stay engaged throughout the whole play.

This is not so much of a intentional disguise, but nonetheless a facade of an illusion. The Lord and brought Christopher Sly back to his home and tricked him into believing that he was rich, powerful and of noble blood. In reality, he is a rouge drunk. But this goes to show what I stated in my thesis, the clothes cannot make a man. Christopher Sly is still the same person no matter what clothes he puts on.

This quote proves multiple things. First, social class does not determine intelligence. Tranio, is sly and cunning but also smart a loyal. He comes up with a plan that's better than Lucentio's, and works until Lucentio's father shows up. Two, Lucentio will do almost anything for love. Lucentio has just seen Bianca and instantly falls in love with her. And as a result, he is willing to take on a new person, Cambio a tutor to court her, another way that disguise are used to deceive.

This quote shows many things. First, Petrucio does not care about what he is wearing and how it may affect others. By wearing this clothes he proves that on the outside he can look how he wants to look. Second, by wearing this clothes we see some of his character that may not have been shown by is first interaction with Kate. By wearing this clothes he shows that he does not care about how he looks around her which shows to his character.
