Review for 1967's The Jungle Book

The Jungle Book was written by Rudyard Kipling in 1894. It was originally a collection of stories that Kipling wrote while he lived in India. The most famous of the stories were those that Kipling wrote about Mowgli, a man-cub raised by wolves in the jungle.

The cartoon, as a whole, is a work of art. You get the vibe of technicolour cartoons, with also a hint of deeper meaning, presented to the viewer in a comical way. Unlike our regular Tom and Jerry cartoons, you really watch it for the analysis as well as the values, rather than just for pure comedy. Partnered with fitting music, sound effects, and voice acting, the story really quite stands out. I can see why it is a longtime favourite for Disney fans.

Value wise, 1967's The Jungle Book teaches a lot about friendship. In the story, Mowgli refuses to accept that he is human, due to living in an antihuman place, the jungle. When Bagheera breaks the news of There Khan, and that he must go back to a village, Mowgli revolts, claiming that he can live on his own. The story proves otherwise, as at any part of the story, Mowgli is helped out by his fellow animals. In the end, Mowgli proves his worth by tying a branch set ablaze to Share Khan's tail. Nevertheless, he would not have done it without the acknowledgements of him new vulture friends. Thus, we need each other to survive and flourish.

Story wise, each scene is well crafted and is quite similar to what is depicted in the books. It adds a comical twist to many parts of the story, such as how Orangutan had to support his crumbling temple, but only managed to save a few stones atop his head. In another scene, Kaa is depicted as an ever shifting platform of indefinite length, able to bend in midair at her will, hanging across multiple branches when in reality, her body is quite short. In the end, she is always in a knot.

In a nutshell, this cartoon is a must watch. Not only is it suitable for all ages, it is also quite relevant to the modern age.
