In the 1960s, Indonesia became scared of the threat of communism- as a result, 500,000 people perished.. East Timor became part of Indonesia shortly after Portugal allowed East Timor to become independent. </div>]]></description>

There are many parties active, however. Some examples are: the Democratic party, Party of Functional Groups, and the National Awakening Party. One of the biggest hot topics when it comes to polo tics in Indonesia is corruption. A recent poll shows that 91% of Indonesia thinks their government to be corrupt. Indonesia is also widely considered the leader of ASEAN, an intergovernmental orginization dedicated to boosting the economies of Southeast Asian nations. </div>]]></description>
