Contrary to popular belief, Galileo was not the inventor of the telescope, however, he was very talented in crafting his own. He created his own makeshift telescopes from spectacle lenses and continued to make increasingly stronger telescopes. Everyone had previously thought that the earth was the centre of the universe, however Galileo discovered that Venus also has phases like our moon, proving that we, in fact, are not the centre of the universe, but that the sun is. Galilei also discovered the rings that surrounded the planet of Saturn

Galileo was in a grand cathedral and noticed that a lamp swinging overhead took the same period of time for each swing, even as the swing became shorter in distance. This law states that a pendulum will always take the same amount of time to swing because there is always the same amount of kinetic energy in the pendulum, however it is just transferred from one direction to the other.

After writing a book on the invention of a hydrostatic balance, he gained the notice of the scientific world. This was very beneficial as he was now able to share his discoveries and theories with the world.

He continued to challenge the fact that that many of the laws of Greek philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle were incorrect and was able to prove such theories in his lifetime.

Law of Falling Bodies: With balls of different sizes and weights, rolling them down ramps with varying inclinations
Principle of the Pendulum: In 1602, he determined that a pendulum always takes the same time to complete a swing, and by the end of his lifetime, Galilei designed and crafted the very first pendulum clock.
Copernican Theory: After handcrafting his own telescope, Galileo was able to study Venus. He concluded that like Earth's moon, this planet had phases. This proved that our planet was not the centre of the universe and the sun and other planets did not orbit us; we orbit the sun.

Galileo Galilei was an Italien polymath who laid the foundation for future physicists, astronomers, and philosophers. He was born in 1564 and died in 1642 at the age of 77. He attended the University of Pisa where he studied medicine for four years. Though very important and significant in science, Galileo was hated by many during his life on earth. Galileo was accused two times of heresy by the church for his beliefs as he was going against everything the church believed. However, he continued to write books and expand his theories and ideas until the time of his passing.
