I successfully finished my Bachillerato in Mexico with a first in 2019. 
My English studies
Then I was expected to go to university, but I decided to take a year to learn English, so I attended a 9-month course with EF in Brighton. It was one of the best decisions I have ever taken in my life because it was such an enriching experience, I did not only learnt English but I also learnt a lot about myself, how to be independent and the lifestyle in the UK. This experience pushed me to try and apply to a university in Brighton, which was something I thought I was never going to be able to do because it was going to be a big challenge.
But I did it! :)
My current studies
Now, I'm a student at the University of Brighton International College, currently studying International Year One in Business. Then, I would like to progress to Business Management with Finance and Placement Year. I would like to study this degree because it offers me what I’m looking for, which is to gain an understanding of the diverse areas of modern business management and also to develop knowledge about business communication, teamwork, finance, markets, business ethics, and industry skills.

I decided to study in the UK because I know it is a great opportunity to grow, expand my horizons and challenge myself. I know as well that degrees from UK higher education providers are respected and recognized in a high standard around the world. I am sure that the knowledge and experience will be highly valuable in my country.


And I chose this university, first, for its popularity and recognition among international students, and second, because I loved its four core values which are inclusivity, sustainability, creativity, and partnership.

  • Interpersonal: Understanding the way I interact with others, and considering my personality traits to develop relationships. Such as leadership, motivation and empathy.
  • Intrapersonal: Understanding my own thoughts, emotions and ideas, and the management of them. Such as self-confidence, self-motivation and self-patience.

  • Time management
  • Research skills
  • Critical thinking
  • Teamwork 
  • Presentation and public speak

My first assignment was for IY403 Economics. The task was to write a report on the Market Structure of the Coffee Shop Industry in the UK, and the requirements included first-hand research. It allowed me to academically step out of my comfort zone for the first time in another country since I had to look for a business interview in Brighton. I formulated an interview with the purpose to gather valuable information, and then I looked for a local coffee shop business willing to accept the interview. It is challenging to present in another language and I often doubt myself or get really nervous. During my course I developed two presentations that helped me to gain confidence and communication skills.

Both assignments were group presentations, so they also helped to practice team work, organisation, problem-solving and time management.
