1. Choose a song that you like and copy and paste the lyrics into Illustrator. If it is a short song, add additional copies to the end of of the song to repeat a few times to make it fill the letters of the large word.

2. With the Text tool active, type in all CAPS one of the important words of the lyrics. Example - Hello darkness my old friend, I used HELLO

3. Make the word as large as the paper

4. In the TYPE dropdown select Create Outlines - to make the word a shape

5. Slice - any letter that has an inside shape. B,D,O,P,Q, R

6. Object/Compound Path/Release - to make the shape fillable with text

7. Use Type Area Tool - to place text of the song inside of the shapes

8. Link text from first letter to the second letter, then the 3rd and so on.

9. Adjust the filled lyrics so they fit inside of the first word

10. Use the Font size, Leading, Kerning and Tracking to keep the larger white spaces to a minimum

• 4 columns of demo text - Justified for aligned columns

• Wrapped demo text around 1 image found from a Google search, "model -sports activity- white background"

• Include your black and white sports logo from Assignment 2.

• At least 1 photo of the sport that bleeds off of the page

• 1 photo of your sport that fills 2 columns

• Spacer design for the end of the layout to show the end of the article

• Page numbers - even number on the left, odd number on the right

To turn in: Upload an Illustrator file of your design and also a screen shot of your design on the t-shirt to show for mock-up.

Choose the typestyle you want to use.

Add your first name in ALL CAPS to the top of a circle using the Type on a Path Tool and your last name in ALL CAPS to the bottom of the circle. Put a circular logo design from the internet in the middle of the circle.

1. Purpose for Flyer - Based off of the business from "Text on a Path".

2. Headline - Create a slogan for the headline using the business from Assignment 2 - "Text on a path" in the second column.

3. Message - Is not neccesary as we will be using demo text

4. Graphics - Logo and associated images, other graphic shapes to be included as well for your design - Do an image search for GRAPHIC SPACERS

5. Additional information - Page numbers

There are 3 types of Envelope Distort:

1. Make with Warp

2. Make with Mesh

3. Make with Top Object

• Find a simple silhouette of an animal.

• Use Image Trace to vectorize the image

• Use the knife to cut off the head, tail or other parts of the animal that you do not want the letters to fill

• Use Make with Top Object to fill body of the animal with the name of the animal

• Further manipulate the lettering with the Liquify tools

• Change text to a shape

• Use the Knife to cut word in half

• Check the direction of the Wrinkle tool to make sure the direction is horizontal

Clipping masks can be used with photos, but can also be used with other shapes created in Illustrator

The nice thing about this manipulated text is the lettering can be changed as the word does not need to be converted to a shape first

1. Type an ALL CAPS 2 words that have at LEAST 4 letters each.

2. Create 2 shapes.

3. Select one of the words and one of the shapes.

4. Make sure the shape is in front of the word and do an Object/Envelope Distort/Make with Top Object, to fit the word inside of the selected shape.

• The higher the intensity percentage of your tool - the more it will affect the shape.

• The larger the brush size - more of the shape will be affected

1. Type an all uppercase word that has to do with water

2. Convert Type/Create Oulines

3. On the bottom corner of the letters drag down edges - check size & settings in the demo video

4. Use Bloat tool to create the drop - check size & settings in the demo video

5. Make your word a compound path

6. Add a gradient color to add visual interest

1. Text inside of letters this shows how to fill larger letters with type. Add 2 letters, an O and an M in Gill Sans Ultra Bold, underneath the 4 shapes you just made. Turn the 2 letters into shapes.  Using the Knife tool cut one side of the O. Watch the 3rd demo on using the Knife tool.  This will allow the text to fit into the O. Fill both the letters with fill text. Make them different typestyles and colors.

We will be choosing at least 5 of our t-shirt designs to make available to print.
