In a school before for arts week we did:
Monday to Wednesday: Literacy, Maths and Art.
Thursday & Friday. All art.
This allowed the children to really learn the skills and avoids the need to constantly put away and get out resources. It produced the best quality of art I've ever seen in a school.
We would need to factor in specialists but it could still be effective.
