<title>Overall, I think you did a great job of applying each term to different articles. I chose the article about fires as well, the way you analyzed it was very well done. I like how you tied in impact, immediacy, and proximity as well as being informative. I also like how you applied the terms to the third article you chose. I saw that article and couldn&#39;t exactly figure out what terms to apply, so reading your interpretation was very helpful. </title>

<title>I agree that the first article is a hard news story. It deals with people&#39;s livelihoods (impact) (immediacy) and it pertains specifically to people in the area around where the publication is based. The second news story is the definition of an oddity as it is not normal. The third choice because it is an impactful and proximal issue in seeing that people are anxious for any steps in the right direction as the whole planet is struggling in how to grasp this.</title>

<title>Hi Hendrik, I lean more on your first article being an impact article because the question &quot;why should I care?&quot; is answered. There are also qualitative and quantitative measures that are mentioned in the article. The quantitative impact measures the range of impact, such as how many businesses are suffering in this area and the qualitative impact shows the severity of impact like, number of dancers or classes suffering. It definitely falls under proximity because it touches you harder when it&#39;s nearby. (I couldn&#39;t find your second article in the print paper, so I had to look it up on their website) In the second article, I again, agree it is an impact article because &quot;business is tanking&quot; at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. I&#39;m not quite convinced that it falls under fame due to it applying to two categories: very famous celebrities and people living their &quot;15 minutes of fame.&quot; I can see how you would think that. Now I&#39;m wondering whether locations fall into this element.I agree your last article is a fame story; however, I’m not sure if it’s an oddity. Carole Baskin became a notable person after the whole Tiger King film and her &quot;15 minutes of fame&quot; are definitely not over. It’s not an oddity that a famous person decides to join the cast of Dancing with the Stars, but you are right that she rose to fame unexpectedly and she is odd. </title>

<title>&quot;L.A is about to declare a fiscal emergency. That could mean pay cuts for city workers.&quot; This is a hard news story that was considered news by the editors because of its immediacy (the council is scheduled to vote today), proximity because affects the workers of the city of Los Angeles, and impact because this decision will affect a big number of workers. </title>

<title>Hi Lucy! I think you did a wonderful job defining and explaining what terms apply to each article you chose. The first one was one of the articles I thought about writing about but couldn&#39;t really find the exact terms that should be applied to it so reading your thoughts on it really helped me understand it better and I completely agree that it made news because of proximity, fame and immediacy. The second one is definitely about fame and I really like how you also added oddity to it, because it makes a lot of sense. Overall I think you did a great job!</title>

<title>August being the most deadliest month for COVID-19 cases Article. This article is considered news to the Los Angeles Times due to the use of immediacy and impact of the information the article provides. This article incorporates immediacy because it is a very important piece of information being put out in the world and people are eager to know. The immediacy of this article is due to the topic at hand and how it&#39;s a threat to life because it is information on an ongoing virus and people want to know all they can as fast as they can to stay as safe as they can. Impact is the second part of what makes this article a piece of news to the los Angeles times. This article shows very important quantitative impact because it shows the full range and extent of the impact which would be the total death toll for the coronavirus in the month of august and shows actual numbers.</title>

<title>Article #2- “Video shows sheriff’s deputies killing Dijon Kizzee. But questions still remain.” By Rueben Vives, Leila Miller, Matthew Orsemth, Luke Money, Alence TchekmedyianThis story was considered news by the L.A. Times editors because of its conflict, impact and, emotional impact, and proximity. This story covers the details and information regarding yet another killing of a black man due to police force- this is a high conflict subject and has been since the killing of George Flloyd. People are talking about this subject and want to read about it. The reason is for its emotional impact- this story touches the hearts of almost every american and especially those in the black community. It also has a lot of impact outside of emotion, the BLM is stronger than ever and the calls for change from our country are louder than ever, this story has an impact in all of those movements. The last thing is it’s proximity- it happened in LA at the hands of the LAPD who has a notorious history for being racist, the story takes place in the readers hometown. </title>

<title>Hi Olivia! Great examinations on which stories would attract which audiences. I&#39;ve spoken to plenty of business owners who are on their toes about changing policies and the touch-and-go nature of everything right now, and the first article would absolutely be of value to them. The Immediacy dimension is of high importance to news like this, especially. As someone doing my best to keep in mind which stories matter to whom, I appreciate your analysis.</title>

<title>An article titled “Tom Seaver, heart and mighty arm of Miracle Mets, dies at 75” was published September 2nd at 6:01PM. As millions have lost their lives due to Covid-19 related complications, the legacy of the famous baseball star will resonate among baseball fans. While this article fits under the fame aspect of interest in audience members, it also calls attention to the impact of the ongoing pandemic that has persisted since early this year. Most information presented on mortality rates of COVID-19 related incidents are typically reported by state or country, but because of the fame and achievements earned by the baseball star, many will be affected by his passing.</title>

<title>The article &quot;Nancy Pelosi Says Her Visit to a Hair Salon was a &#39;Setup&#39;&quot; was alternately considered news due to fame and conflict. The hypocrisy of her not wearing a mask after what she had preached to the general public and many agreeing with her politically but disagreeing with this choice creates much conflict politically and morally. This conflict will undoubtedly be the topic of discussion for many other articles for at least the next week. The fame aspect obviously comes into play with her position as Speaker of the House. The current election and her outspokenness about it as well as her being either famous or infamous to both sides of it make her a prominent topic of discussion.</title>

<title>HEADLINE: The rotten-smelling corpse flower is about to bloom. Here’s how to watch it liveA true oddity, Amorphophallus titanium is nicknamed the corpse flower for its offensive odor. Previous bloom events have drawn large crowds to Huntington Library, home to more than 40 of these flowers. It will display its stunning flower for 2-3 days and, due to Covid-19 restrictions, the bloom cycle will be live-streamed. Proximity might make this of interest to local residents as the Huntington is in Pasadena.</title>

<title>Hi Maxwell! Your chosen articles certainly point to the all-encompassing nature of the Covid-19 virus. I appreciate your focus on it&#39;s implications for the working people of California, then moving on to coverage of the Covid-19 related death of sports icon, Tom Seaver. It reminds us that this virus does not discriminate and is touching, and taking, the lives of people from all walks of life. Also, that you have chosen to look at California news pieces, one article of which will send greater ripples across the sports world. This news is regional as Seaver resided in California, and yet it is far reaching. Thanks for sharing.</title>

<title>LA to spend $10 million on eviction defense. com, Wed. Sept 2, 2020, pg. B3Immediacy, Impact, Conflict, Proximity (Hard News)Proximity, Immediacy &amp; Impact: Los Angeles residents are in danger of losing homes now because protections are expiring. The L.A. City Council passed an “emergency eviction defense,” to try to help. It seems it was thought about at the last minute. Conflict: Some tenants were angry at the apparent lack of planning. “You’ve waited until the last minute to slap something together,” said one tenant. It also seems that the officials were confused. Although California lawmakers had recently passed new rules to protect the tenants, L.A. officials were still trying to understand the rules. </title>

<title>&quot; As fire burns, activists sneak into Point Reyes to bring water to parched elk. Should they?&quot; This article is considered news to the LA Times because of its oddity, immediacy, and impact. It&#39;s not often that within California one hears about citizens providing water to parched elk, therefore, this story is odd enough to qualify as news. Again, there are wild fires coursing throughout California state today and for the last few weeks. Because of that, there is an immediacy factor for this story being relevant news. Also, reader&#39;s will feel empathetic toward the poor elk and will take notice in what they are going through, this way the reader&#39;s can help where they can. Further, there is a question being proposed in the headline of this article, so the audience is looking out for whether or not they can give water to the elk. It&#39;s a matter concerning a law that prohibits citizens to engage with the elk, but the kindness in the heart&#39;s of those citizens that urges them to take action in saving these animals.</title>
