This is an initiative put into place by Governer Michelle Lejan Grisham, and set to begin in November, which builds off previous efforts to reduce childcare costs. The goals of this initiative are to provide financial relief to families, boost the state’s economy, and ensure that every child has the opportunity to thrive, saving families $12,000 annually. With a budget of around $1 billion, improvements for child care facilities, potential staff raises, a loan fun for facility reconstruction, and recruitment campaign for home-based providers. There are concerns for the strains on the child care system and sustainability, but this marks a significant step toward accessible and affordable child care, potentially influencing other states to follow suit.

I think this topic is relevant because there are many policies, like the tariffs, budget cuts, etc., that make it hard for the average American to comfortably live. This will help so many families de-stress about something that I think the government should have been providing to the people. It is unfair for parents to worry about this kind of issue because they obviously want the best conditions for their children, but the lack of access and resources makes it extremely difficult. I truly hope that this influences other states to follow suit and invest in the future of our children. Our country is only as good as the people who live in it, so why not provide them with experiences that will enhance their childhood. This could potentially change the course of society because it seems as if America is starting to become more family oriented  rather than business and financial oriented. With New York’s Governor Hochul’s cell-phone ban, I feel like we can already see leaders focusing more on the well-being of our children. With more access to child care, I can predict that there will be happier homes due to parents having to worry less about financial burdens, because no matter how much they try to hide household issues, kids can still sense there is something going on. Some people say that money leads to happiness, and saving $12,000 annually just in child care will definitely make many parent happy so they can invest their time and money into other things.
