I have been community based since January 2020 but recently returned back to the obstetric unit. I've been interested in perinatal mental health since I started my midwifery training in 2015 and have now decided it's time to put more focus on it and actively learn more about it. I'd love to become a specialist perinatal mental health midwife in the future. My Trust doesn't yet have one so hopefully I can persuade them to change that!
I'm not nervous about starting the course but I am hoping I'll be able to keep up with working full time as well. I'm Jill and I'm a new-to-the-community midwife in Newcastle, UK. I'm a mother of 4, three of whom I'm joyfully raising and one who didn't get to stay with us beyond her birth.  So, I have both a personal and professional interest in perinatal mental health. My personal experience of birth trauma and bereavement motivated me to change career from teacher to midwife, lateish in life! I wrote my undergraduate dissertation on PTSD following childbirth and I'm really looking forward to building on that early interest with this course. My Trust has a perinatal mental health specialist midwife now and she's been very supportive of me undertaking this Masters (I have promised her that I'm not after her job at this point in my career!)
I'm so looking forward to studying, although like most of us I think, I'm a little anxious about fitting it in around everything else. When I applied, I was working part-time but I am now (temporarily) full-time as I transition from hospital based midwifery to being primarily in the community. Anyway, my name is Kristyna, I’m a social worker and I work in a perinatal hospice based in the Czech Republic. Hence my interest in perinatal mental health. I am a mother of 2, currently on maternity leave with my youngest (4 months old). So here I am, another anxious one, hoping I can fit everything in :D
