Fiction: Graphic Novel, Chrysanthemum

1. How does the source relate to your topic?

Chrysanthemum relates to my topic because in the children's book, the character was confident about how different her name was until she started school. The kids would make fun of her. The kids would laugh about how it doesn't fit on her name tag, or how she is named after a flower. She let the kids get to her and had her think that her name was ugly.

2. How did reading or viewing the source help you understand your topic better?

Reading the book online really help me understand my topic more because after she realized that her name was unique, she was happy about Chrysanthemum being her name. After that, she really had no problem being herself anymore, she found herself. She really stopped focusing on what others thought about her.

3. How did the creator of the text get these ideas across to the reader or viewer?

In th story chrysanthemum, the creator got the message to the reader because of the words used like "wilted" to show that the character was effected by the way others were talking about her and to her. The body language showed in the pictures showed Chrysanthemum was upset and about what others thought about her

1. How does the source relate to your topic?

The movie The little Mermaid relates to my topic because Ariel notices the Prince who is a human. but to please him she wished to change into human in exchange for Her voice just make him happy. She changed herself physically to become something she is truly not. Ariel then figures out that it was a bad idea to change herself to make other happy instead of herself happy.

2. How did the reading or viewing the source help you understand the topic better?

Watching the movie truly helped me understand my topic better. Changing yourself to make others happy will not help you understand who you truly are. Its only letting others see the fake you.

3. How did the creator of the text get these ideas across to the reader or viewer

The creator got the point across because When Ariel knew she couldn't be with the Prince she showed disappointed body language and was super upset about not being able to be with him So she changed herself not realizing she express how she really is.

How does this source relate to your topic?

This photograph relates to my topic because the bag over her head that says Photoshop portrays how everybody on social media or in person could dislike someones looks. From people, mainly girls tend to try to fit everybody's standards not realizing that they might not be themselves. This also shows that teenagers are too worried about what others think about them. What teenagers are not worried about is ho they see themselves and how they need to make themselves happy before others.

2. How did the reading or viewing the source help you understand your topic better?

Viewing the picture helped me understand my topic better because this shows how people change to make other happy. It shows how judgmental people can be and ho it can cause issues for others. This is when people need to understand that being yourself and not hiding your real personality or looks really brings out the good in you, and can also bring out the good in others.

3. How did the creator of the texts get these ideas across to the reader or viewer?

The creator got his or her idea across because of the powerful message that can be determined. Putting the bag over the girls head with the word "Photoshop" really shows how people do not even try to be themselves anymore, its all about fitting in with the "cooler" people.

Non-Fiction: News Article, "Why being yourself matters"

http://www.lifehack.org/articles/featured/why-being-yourself-matters.html

1.How does the source relate to your topic?

This article relates to my topic because it really shows how unique being yourself is. It states, "There will never be anyone else like you in the future of the universe. There has never been anyone exactly like you since human life began. That’s why being yourself is more important than anything else; certainly more than the fear that traps people into conforming" This quote is so powerful because it really explains that being told how you see yourself by others is not what someone needs.

2. How did the reading or viewing the source help you understand the topic better?

Reading this article helped me understand that being yourself is super unique, that everybody is different and perfect in their own ways. If someone tries to control that and control how you see yourself then you wont be uniquely different from everybody else and being different is super exciting.

3. How did the creator of the text get these ideas across to the reader or viewer?

The creator got the point across to the reader by putting together smart words and wording the sentences in a way that can really get to you. It shows you to be yourself and how you should much rather be hated for who are rather than loved for who you're not.
