John Cabot was born in 1450 in Genoa, Italy. His death is unknown. Cabot exploring for England set out in 1497 for Asia because he believed that the route to Asia would be shorter from Northern Europe than Columbus’s voyage along the trade winds. Instead of exploring Asia, Cabot ended up (unknowingly) exploring Canada/North America. Cabot left for another voyage in 1498, but interestingly enough nobody knows the whereabouts of Cabot after 1498. Cabot was actually inspired by the discoveries of Bartolomeu Dias and Christopher Columbus. His youngest son, Sebastiano, followed in his footsteps and became an explorer.

Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa, Italy, in 1451 and died in 1506. He was exploring for Spain in 1492, 1493, 1498, 1502 to find a trade route to India, but “discovered” America instead. Some interesting facts are Portugal, England, and France refused to back Columbus’ voyage, at the age of 41 he defied naysayers across Europe and led 4 voyages across an uncharted ocean in wooden sailing ships that were not designed for the powerful waters of the Atlantic, and he spoke frequently about his desire to spread Christianity.
