The formal faces of caregivers include professional individuals who have previous training and education in providing care and who are also paid for the services they provide. Some of the services that these caregivers associate with are home health care, assisted living facilities, senior centers, intermediate care facilities, nursing homes, and even adult daycare centers.

Why do I work as a caregiver?

Many people who work as caregivers do it because they make such a positive impact in helping improve the lives of the people they are caring for. The small acts of care and love that are provided by caregivers give many of those under their care the feeling of trust, value, and honor and also can eliminate a lot of the fear and sadness they may have been struggling with due to not being capable of taking care of themselves. Formal caregivers' study and begin to understand every single elderly person whom they are caring for and also start to do the little things to just make them smile and laugh like wearing bright-colored uniforms, spreading a positive attitude, listening, praying together, talking to the seniors about memories and words of wisdom, laughing and even just simply watching tv with them.

Caregivers play a major role in supporting and caring for elderly adults who are not only dealing with minor care issues but also major health care issues. Some of the services provided by formal caregivers are assistance in personal care (dressing, bathing, hygiene), homemaking services (cooking, laundry, cleaning), clinical care services (wound care), medical needs (prescription, other medication intakes), nutrition, monitor vital signs, checkups, transportation, shopping and even running errands. Formal caregivers help not only the recipient but also the family by giving them closer and support that their loved one is overall being taken care of in their absence.

Formal caregivers often have not only the recipient's responsibility in their hands, but they also need to know how to balance their personal life and their professional life. Many struggles trying to keep their mind focused and in place when dealing with different situations on a daily basis. It is important for caregivers to also have a support system that they can heavily rely on when needed. Some of the support that is available to caregivers are programs in which many can face-to-face communicate with others who are also caregivers and seek advice, guidance, and support from them. Some other support system is reaching out to counseling/therapists in order to be able to communicate what they are feeling, not forgetting about their own personal care, and even joining caregiving support groups.
