Isabel was very into reading in her youth as she read the works of William Shakespeare. Isabel Allende started her climb to fame when she started translating English books to Spanish. This career would not last long as she was fired for making unauthorized changes to books like Cinderella to make the books sound more intelligent.

 A few years later Isabel became a columnist for a major national newspaper. She made reading and literature onto her everyday life. Like her best selling book "The House of Spirits" was a tribute to her near death Grandfather at the time. Isabel also hopped around the U.S. to help teach literature to people who couldn't really afford school at the time.
