This activity is to familiarize yourself with the culture of Native Americans along with understanding some of the disturbance European settlers caused. I want you to be able to discuss the culture of Native Americans. I also want you to realize the significance European settlers, Columbus and his fellow shipmates, had on the Native Americans. After this activity, hopefully you will have a better idea about these fascinating people and maybe see Columbus Day a little differently.

Columbus Day celebrates the man who was supposedly the first to discover America. However, there is a controversy as to whether it should be celebrated or not. Watch this video and answer the following questions on your paper.

A) What are the people wanting to celebrate instead of Columbus on October 12?

B) The video mentioned Columbus set the stage for slave trade. It also mentioned he committed terrible crimes against the Native Americans. Even though Columbus was not a great man, can you think of something good he did?
