New Year's "Fresh Start" Messaging
Launch a theme such as "New Year, New Goals: Finish Strong". Use posters, announcements, social media, and advisory discussions to frame January as a fresh start for everyone.

Schoolinks can be used as a way to collect and evaluate student goals in SY26.

College Student Panels

1) Articulation meeting between HS counselors and MS counselors regarding students with behavioral and academic problems, and student social conflicts to avoid scheduling those students together.

2) Calendaring for next school year for NGA and School Counseling Partnership: set monthly agenda topics and focus (e.g. executive functioning, tutoring, etc.)

3) Create a panel and shadow day for incoming ninth grade students.

4) Maintain a log with Summer Bridge to ask about academic and attendance concerns.

5) Create a Summer Program for high school students on conflict management, study skills, time management, and organizational skills.

6) ELD Articulation and evaluation of students.

Give students time weekly/bi-weekly to review grades in Synergy and set goals to improve for the following week. Students should also be encouraged to develop three questions/ideas to help them improve.

First Semester Honor Roll Celebration

• Each student creates three SMART Goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-Bound) tied to:

  • Academic achievement (ex: pass all classes, earn a certification, improve GPA)

  • Behavior/attendance (ex: 95% on-time arrival rate)

  • Personal growth (ex: career exploration, apply to apprenticeship programs, SEL goals)

Utilize SchooLinks in academic planning and goal setting for students to evaluate their progress during Q1.

For the first hour of Advisory, have students go to the content area where they are failing for extra support and to complete missing assignments.

-Advisory Lessons scaffolding Self-Advocacy, Identifying concerns, and then addressing those concerns. This would include how to advocate with staff, in particular how to write an email to their teachers/PSC.

How are we supporting students who are overwhelmed before the break?

-Meetings with their support staff (9th Grade Coordinator, Mental Health Specialist, Case Manager, etc.)

To ensure a smooth and successful transition from Semester 1 to Semester 2, a designated transition period will be scheduled during which students will remain at home. This time will allow counselors and staff to finalize schedules, address student needs, and ensure all academic placements are accurate and ready for the start of the new semester.
