Ethnicity- ethnicity has to do with a person's race or cultural beliefs that are not similar to someone else (1/10); a person's ethnicity also includes the country they are from, or inherited from previous generations (1/24)

Gender- how you define yourself, either male or female. Gender is also based on the physical sex characteristics you're born with (1/31). Although someone can identify themselves as male or female, they can still have the opposite gender's genitalia if they have not had a sex change (2/7). 

Social Class- how a person defines themselves in terms of their income (2/7).

Equity- when everyone is treated fairly (2/7).

Race- a group of people with similar characteristics like skin color (2/14).

Racism- discrimination against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's race is superior to another (2/14).

Racist- a person who shows discrimination towards people of a different race (2/14).

Institutional Racism- racism that occurs in schools with children (2/14).

Systemic Racism- systemic racism is the racism that occur with housing, employment, incarceration, etc. (2/14).

Something that surprised me is that I struggled with how important my religion is to me. Race and housing are very much related. When Byron's parents were looking to purchase a home for his family, they found a two-story duplex in one of the areas in Chester, PA that would rent to African Americans. They had to scrap together money in order to pay the deposit with no help. It was much easier for Max's parents to find a home in all-white Merrick. With help from a low budget government VA loan, they were able to stretch their resources and move into a new suburban development. During this time it was very difficult for African Americans to find places to live because they were constantly turned down due to their race.
2. After manufacturing crashed, many people began to leave Chester. The value of the properties began to fall and this caused the socioeconomic level to change as well. The Green's neighborhood began to deteriorate when expenses climbed.
3. As a future teacher, I will try to understand where all of my students came from. Whether they are white or nonwhite.
