Ethical Relativism means that moral standards of society vary by community. While some societies believe that a certain thing is good, others can be strongly against it. Societal norms, which are determined by a community's traditions, religions, etc, can help form these moral standards.

Most ethicists disagree with the idea of ethical relativism because they believe that all society's have fundamental morals that do not vary between communities. These people say that, although they may be cared out through different means depending on our community's norms, we all base our actions upon shared moral understandings. Ethicists also argue that there are certain subjects that are immoral in every society no matter what the circumstance, like slavery or torture.

A relativistic would prevent me from protesting and changing these laws because this concept argues that, because my society accepts these immoral laws, they are ethical in my community. This concept can not be applied in a situation in which a community has immoral laws because it supports passivity instead of advocating for change. Ethical Relativism supports an environment that revolves around what others are doing and accepting things purely if others are accepting them.

Ethical Relativism is a rejection of justice because it denies us the right to advocate for needed change in our communities. This idea accepts the current ways of any culture, but not because they are moral. Ethical Relativism promotes conforming to one society's laws and ideas, even if they are immoral. According to this concept, any law is considered moral if it is accepted by society as a whole. Ethical Relativism does not encourage people to think critically about the world around them.

From a relativistic standpoint, we cannot speak in terms of moral and immoral consciences because one's morality is based upon their society. Morality varies from community to community, which means that people cannot be labeled moral or immoral, because it is relative to their environment.

I think the antidote to relativism is acknowledging that every person is entitled to human rights and if we ever act against those rights, we are making an immoral decision. These rights set a good moral foundation for everything we do. It is important to remember that everyone is equal and deserves fair treatment, no matter what contradictory ideas society is telling you. I think its important to respect that every culture is different and has their own traditions, but we must also make sure to not use this as an excuse for the mistreatment of others.
