Another important rule that we believe you should always remember during a lab is to never leave a lit burner unattended. You never want to leave anything that is being heated or is visibly reacting unattended. Lastly, always remember to check glassware for any chips or cracks. Never look into a container that is being heated.- This is important because it could damage your eyes.

Always turn the burner or hot plate off when not in use. - This is important because it could overheat if you don’t keep watch on it.

Always work in a well-ventilated area. Use the fume hood when working with volatile substances or poisonous vapors. Never place your head into the fume hood. This is important because when an area is not ventilated, there is a chance that it may cause harm to the person through gasses.
