One important rule to follow is to never handle broken glass with your bare hands and to handle it carefully making sure to clean up correctly. Another important rule that we believe you should always remember during a lab is to never leave a lit burner unattended. You never want to leave anything that is being heated or is visibly reacting unattended. Lastly, always remember to check glassware for any chips or cracks. If you do not make sure to observe it well enough before experimenting with your chemicals, the substances you are using will react poorly and leak due to the glass being broken.
