When I was in school, a trainer encouraged me to play in the soccer team. I was not sure about the idea, but I wanted to try it. Several years later, the same person supported me on going to university, and I tried it as well. My confidence increased only because I needed someone to open my mind to do new things, and that helped me to create more opportunities for my future.

When I was majoring English at UNA, there was an opportunity to be part of a student exchange. I was not sure about participating, but my dad encouraged me to do it. He told me to be more confident about my knowledge, but also mentioned the importance of study and prepare myself for the selection process. I trusted him, and at the end of the year I was visiting Illinois, USA for the first time in my life.

When I was at school, I decided to participate in an oratory competition, but I felt nervous and stressed about speaking in front of many people. However, my mom always helped me by listening to my speech every day. She always told me, “I believe in you, Relax, I love you, and you are my intelligent child.” Those words motivated me to continue doing this activity when I was a child. After participating in oratory, I decided to join a dance group and a spelling bee competition, In addition, I feel grateful to my mom because she has encouraged me for as long as I can remember.

When I was in high school, I loved to read and write. Neither my parents nor anybody ever cared about what I wrote so I started to lose interest. Then the Spanish teacher called Mayra started to pay attention to my reports, she even took pictures of some of them. I always got compliments from her and I felt so proud that I started to write with more enthusiasm, I became more confident and I was always excited to show her my writings. I really miss professor Mayra so much.

Two years ago, I was in a traffic accident. At the time, I was very discouraged and unsure if I would ever walk again. I had a professor at university who was very attentive to my progress; her daughter is a doctor at the hospital. She organized the entire class, who were also concerned about me, to write me letters of support, which she then sent to me with her daughter. It was a very special gesture and helped motivate me to overcome that difficult time. Today, I can go for walks and enjoy hikes, and it's so important to know that I always had the support of important people in my life.

However, one day my girlfriend asked me whether I want to continue with my studies after CINDEA and “honestly no”, but she encouraged me to keep studying and now I can look back at the young man that did not believe in himself.

When I was in second or third grade at school. I have always had a difficult relationship with English, and I remember that one time my English teacher told my mom that I needed to get 100 on an exam or I would fail the subject.

At that time, my mom did not know English, and my dad was not living with us. I am the oldest child in my family, so there was nobody at home who could really help me study. My mom explained this to my teacher, Michael, and instead of giving me a normal written or oral exam, they decided to create a different strategy to help me learn in a fun way.

During that week, my teacher sent materials to my house and stayed after school to explain activities to my mom so she could help me practice. We used games and dynamic activities, and I really enjoyed them. For the exam, we went to a school square, and my teacher used cones, colored papers, and pictures with emotions and actions. For example, he would say actions in English like “run” or “walk,” and I had to do them. We also played a traffic light game with colors like red and green. And yes, I passed the exam with a 100. This made me feel that my mom would always find a way to help me and that there are different ways to learn.

I felt very sad and stopped trying for a while because I thought I was not capable. Later, my parents and my sister encouraged me to try again and told me not to give up. The teacher wasn't explaining the material well, and I didn't understand anything. What stressed me out the most was knowing that if I got a low grade, it would affect my scores for the university entrance exam. However, my family comforted me and told me not to worry, that I could do it, and not to let it affect my health. Also, some friends gave me advice on how to handle the situation and encouraged me. In the end, I did well on the exam thanks to all the support I received.

Not only did he motivate me, but he also supported me by buying the necessary gear I needed to play. We shared a wonderful bond because I excelled in English and already showed a deep interest in learning and teaching languages. In fact, his dedication was one of the main reasons why I always wanted to major in English Teaching. Today, I am proud to say that I am studying exactly what I love and always wanted. To this day, I haven't stopped playing futsal either, I am currently part of the university team, forever remembering the very first person who truly believed in me.

When I was a child, I loved soccer. I remember my first tournament, it was at the national games. We were in the final match that decided whether we would win the gold or silver medal. I remember how that game was. The other team was perfectly prepared to win. When the game was over, I felt depressed, devastated, and crushed. But then my coach helped me feel better. He reminded me that giving up is wrong and that we must always keep going, pushing ourselves to the limit. His words gave me strength and true passion means never quitting, even after a loss. Those words still help me today. When everything feels very difficult, I remind myself that is not an option. So, when my major is sometimes challenging, I will keep fighting.

I was a young kid when my mother discovered she had pulmonary cancer, while she was at the hospital she couldn’t take care of me. Worstly, my father had an accident in which he couldn’t take care of me as well. So one friend of my mother took care of me, she gave me a lot of support and love. That experience makes me appreciate more my friends and people in general, also she still being a support for my goals.

This isn’t directly encouragement, but when I was around 10 years old, I used to be really annoying to my teachers, but one day, my English teacher showed me what vocation really means. At that moment, I didn’t realize how much his actions would impact me, he was so patient, and he genuinely wanted me to learn English, now that I’ve grown up, I realize how ungrateful I was, and now I want to become an English teacher to follow that path. By having that vocation, I’d help students learn and somehow give them tools for their future.

Today was the first time I took my driver’s license exam. A week ago, I wasn’t sure whether to sign up for the exam, since I didn’t feel ready, but a family member told me that even if I failed, it would still be a positive experience and, above all, it would allow me to get familiar with the area. In the end, I passed, but those simple words reminded me that everything is a gain, that there will always be someone who believes in me, even if I don’t believe in myself at that moment, that life is like that, that we are capable of anything, and that we must always try.
