Due to the many losses of WWI which caused an insufficiency of Duma among other resources, the people protested and demanded for the Tsar to step down and improve the quality of life. There were 200,000 protests for this. On March 15th Tsar Nicholas II abdicates and the Provisional Committee siezes power, however the PC wanted to participate in the war which made the people unhappy. Leon Trotsky and Mikhail Rodzianko were both very involved in this revolution (though for slightly different reasons and actions). Trotsky was very active in fighting for it. Trotsky reached petrograd with troops. He would later be arrested for his involvement.

(Nov. 7th to Nov. 8th)
During this period of time, the communist party also known as the Bolsheviks (led by Lenin) took control of the capital of Petraguard. In doing so they removed the Provisional Committee, this was a victory for the Bolsheviks. Alexander Kerensky was one of the key political figures in this period of time. He was a minister-chairman for the Provisional Government and he was known for "stirring and emotional oratory". The Mensheviks also existed within their own seperate (unachieved) political ideologies. As opposed to Bolsheviks, Mensheviks were one of three dominant factors in the Russian socialist revolution believed that collaboration with the bourgeoisie was necessary.

In 1915, tsar Nicolas II took personal control over his military troops in WWI. During this period, he moved to Russian Poland where the military headquarters were, leaving behind his family in St. Petersburgh. Although his plan was to boost morale of the russian troops, the tsar was completely inexperienced in large military forces and command. This lead to more humiliating defeats and massive shortages of ammunition, equipment, and medical supplies.
