It is observed that the Sultan Mosque is a major landmark in Kampong Glam, and surrounding it are various shop houses. They include IT shops, boutiques, shops that perfumes, restaurants and cafes that blend in with traditional businesses like textile and carpet shops.

Results of the Environmental Perception Survey:

Pedestrian count: 0

Bussorah Street has a fair pedestrian count with only 10 pedestrians per minute. This value is an average taken from 4 different counts.

Traffic count: +2

Bussorah Street has a low traffic count. This is due to the fact Bussorah Street is closed off to vehicles and can only be accessed by foot. Therefore no vehicles were to be seen.

State of buildings: +1

The shop houses of Bussorah street are maintained adequately. The buildings seem to be stable and in good condition. However the walls of the shop houses are dull and in need of a new coat of paint to make them brighter and more attractive.

Surroundings: +1

The surroundings of Bussorah Street are relatively pleasant with the wide variety of shop houses and various plants.

Use of building: +1

Almost all the buildings along the street are used with the exception of around 4 shophouses.

Litter count: 0

While there is not a vast amount of litter, it cannot be said that Bussorah Street is completely litter free. There are plastic bags and tissues scattered along the road.

In conclusion, based on my observations and the results of my environmental perception survey, Bussorah street is an ideal tourist location as it has a pleasant environment with colorful shop houses and a clean environmen. The Sultan mosque is also of great cultural value which would attract many tourists.

It is observed that Bras Basah Complex is one of the popular sites at Kampong Glam. Majority of the shops are boutiques, Mini Marts, Travel agencies and perfume shops. Not only is it a shopping complex, it is also a hotel. The Sultan Mosque is located just on the opposite side of the road. It is located near the Sultan Mosque and Raffles Hospital.

Results of the Environmental Perception Survey:

Peestrian count : +2

-The complex has a high pedestrian count due to the nearby locations of the Sultan Mosque and Raffle's Hospital. The complex has a relatively high pedestrian count with only 12 pedestrians per minute.

Traffic count : -2

-The complex has a high traffic count due to the nearby locations of the Sultan Mosque and Raffle's Hospital.

State of buildings : -1

-The condition of the building is slightly towards the negative side as it requires some maintenance.

Litter count : +2

-The complex is relatively clean as there were no litter to be seen.

Surroundings : -1

-There were people smoking outside the complex and the cars passing by were very loud, it was rather unpleasant.

Use of buildings : 1

-All the stalls were used up.

Haji Lane mostly consisted of shops from the food and beverages category such as restaurants, cafes and pubs. Nonetheless, there were a few exceptions as a few souvenir shops were also found there. However, the road was quite narrow which made it slightly difficult for vehicles to enter or exit.

Results of the Environmental Perception Survey:

Pedestrian count: +1

- Haji Lane had a relatively high pedestrian probably because it was lunch time since most of them were in cafes and restaurants.

Traffic count: -1

- Despite the narrow road, there was quite a number of vehicles which passed by. However, almost all of them simply drove past without stopping by any of the shops.

State of buildings: 0

- Unfortunately, Haji Lane did have some shops which were not well-tended. Some of the paint was peeling off the wall and there was a scaffolding present in front one of the shops.

Surroundings: +1

- However, Haji Lane had a relatively pleasant surrounding. It was very peaceful as it was not packed with pedestrian and vehicles on the road.

Use of building: 0

- Not all of the buildings were used up though. There were some empty buildings or closed shops.

Litter count: +2

- There was almost no litter found along Haji Lane. This was probably due to the numerous dustbins found near each shop.
