Parents lack of exposure to the American education system restricts their ability to support their children, but they're limited English language skills as well. 

There may be Korean American parents who do not see themselves as equal partners with teachers in their child's education.

Make every student feel welcome in the classroom.
 
Show sincere interest in each and every student so that they feel comfortable and motivated to learn. 
 
Be open to different perspectives, accepting differences as valuable assets to our lives and to the classroom.
 
Be interested in learning about other cultures.
 
Remember that diversity exists among Korean American students.
 
Do not assume that all Koreans are homogeneous.
 
Provide interpreters to assist at parent-teacher conferences and in translating. 
 
Communicate via email or through written memos. This allows them time to read and respond. 
 
Create a classroom that promotes positive learning.
 
Involve ESL or ELL students in small group work.
 
Develop a program in which students from diverse backgrounds could share their own struggles and triumphs.
