Othello knows Desdemona was very smart and of great virtue. However, once an accusation of adultery is thrown at her, he lent toward believing it, even when he knew she was very chaste and noble. Because she was a woman, all of that was thrown out of the window in his mind. She was immediately transformed into a whore and nothing else. He didn't bother questioning the legitimacy of Iago because of his male word against hers. -Alexa

In the play, it becomes clear that Othello is the main character as well as the hero of the story. However, the main antagonist of the story Iago makes it his goal to destroy the relationship built by Desdemona and Othello by making Othello believe that Desdemona cheated on him. This broke down Othello as a man to the point where jealousy and anger took him to a place where he wanted to kill his wife, all because of a lie told by Iago.

The Feminist perspective is very prominent throughout this play, this is seen when Desdemona goes against her fathers word and marry's Othello. This is also seen at the end of the play when Emilia goes against her husband Iago and exposes him as a liar. These things were not seen during this time period for Women and are great examples of Feminine perspective in Othello. Often in relationships people make sacrifices that can often defy important people in their lives. (Diego Jaques)

I associated Marxist criticism with the thematic statement, "anyone is capable of deception." Within Marxist criticism discusses human relations based on the struggle for economic and social power, also easily correlated to the statement, "the have and have nots." I connected this to deception within Othello by way of I ago's actions. He enacted revenge on both Othello and Casio, after Othello promoted and not Iago. Iago felt cheated out of that position, which would ultimately assist him both socially and economically. (Icarus Brashear-Simmons)

He believes that Desdemona should not marry a person of color. He doesn't believe that she could even love a man of a different race.

In the story of othello the archetypes are massively at play throughout the entireity of the story and are placed on to characters mainly on their perception of the events unfolding around them. Othello carrys the archetype of the Tragic hero, a person blinded by justice to the point that in thier quest they cause immense fallout and in most cases fail their goal in an ironic fashion. Desdemona shows the archetype of innocence, throughout the entireity of the story desdemona trusts her husbands judgement up to the very end and used her dying breath to attempt to clear the name of othello by saying that nobody had killed her. Finally Iago radiates the archetype of the manipulator he uses manupilation, slander, mistrust, and lies throughout the entire story to further his goal to take the place of Cassio which in the end failed as all of his wrong doings where revealed by his wife, othello and him although by accident at first.

This creates an image in Othello's head that Desdemona cheats on Othello when in reality he was overhearing Rodrigo and Iago talking about Bianca. This gives him the goal to kill Desdemona because he doesn't trust what she says since she's a woman.

The feminist perspective portrayed in Othello reinforces patriarchal societal notions of male dominance over female characters. A motif in Othello is "mutual respect and cooperation from spouses is a necessity in any long-lasting relationship". In Othello, this theme comes to light in that Othello and Desdemona are not able to cooperate as a unit when something goes wrong; This is the reason their relationship was a complete disaster. - Audra Walmsley

Othello shows the feminist perspective by showing a clear male dominated society throughout the play. During the play, Othello slapped Desdemona then commanded her to leave, as she was leaving, the man that Othello was talking with was impressed with how obedient she is to Othello, which causes Othello to call her back, and she does as she was told to do. That scene shows that the females in that society were dominated by the male figures. (Jordan)
