There unique content at that time allowed society to get a glimpse of the repulsive and barbaric side of humanity and beyond.

This is vital because he created and opened a new topic to look upon. A new platform was produced and it engaged readers who were looking for topics and plots that were outside of the box. The Murders in the Rue Morgue represented the Murder Mystery genre so well that it became the first to ever be placed in that category.

This includes topics such as, murder, revenge, torture, barbarity, and insanity. Being buried alive is an example of Gothic Literature. Edgar Allan Poe excelled in writing in this particular gruesome, but intriguing style. Several of his pieces of writing that are Gothic Literature are  The Tell- Tale Heart, which includes a man who is paranoid that the heart of another man he killed is still beating. Also, The Fall of the House of Usher, which showcases an unusual family that lives their abnormal life in their uncommon house.
