We utilize a Google Form as our observation/walkthrough tool. This allows us to collect the data in one place and it is easy to refer back to and use to set our goals for the year as a program, etc.

Prior I review the TPOT or TPITOS observation booklet as a refresh. I bring many sharpened pencils and a lot of paper. I usually do running record of what I observe. I do some coding of marking things I wonder about and what was great that I want to highlight

be really transparent with the teacher, ensuring they feel we are working in partnership

Greet and talk to all adults in the classroom
Try to be as no disruptive as possible
Write down direct words that teachers use so I can use them in feedback

Tina suggested I used a multicolored pen for TPOT observations. For example, I use blue ink for emotional literacy, red for directions, green for pos. desc. fdback, black for friendship skills, etc. It works very well!

we use our goal setting/action plan forms as a base to lead observations, but will use recordings, tallies, etc.

We follow up with a "glows and grows" type email to staff. For staff we observe not the formal TPOT observation, this is a nice way to recap what we observed.

I use an observation protocol or checklist, focusing on specific teaching practices, use running records, take photos, and use anecdotal notes.
