Fall of the Western Roman Empire (476 CE)

The Western Roman Empire ended in 476 CE when the last emperor, Romulus Augustulus, was removed by Germanic tribes. Rome had become weak because of bad rulers, wars, and lack of money. This event is important because it ended ancient Rome in the West and began the Middle Ages in Europe.

Middle Ages (5th – 15th century)

The Middle Ages lasted about a thousand years after Rome fell. People lived under the feudal system, where kings, nobles, knights, and peasants all had their duties. The Catholic Church was very powerful, controlling education and daily life. Castles and villages were common, and there were many wars. Although sometimes called the “Dark Ages,” learning slowly grew, and later the Renaissance began.

Vikings Era (793 – 1066 CE)

The Vikings came from Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. They were strong warriors and excellent sailors. They raided towns in England, France, and other parts of Europe. But they were also traders and explorers, traveling as far as Russia and even North America. They spread culture and opened new trade routes.

Crusades (1096 – 1291 CE)

The Crusades were wars started by Christians to take back Jerusalem from Muslims. Thousands of people joined because they believed it was their religious duty. Even though the Crusaders did not keep Jerusalem for long, the wars made Europe and Asia more connected. Europe learned about new goods like spices, silk, and new ideas, which later encouraged exploration.

Mongol Empire (1206 – 1368 CE)

The Mongol Empire was started by Genghis Khan. It became the biggest land empire in history, stretching from China to Europe. The Mongols were great horsemen and fighters, and people feared them. But they also made trade safe along the Silk Road, which allowed goods and ideas to travel between Asia and Europe.

Black Death (1347 – 1351 CE)
