It _may_ very well be that our weakest readers opted out (and that the scores are thus inflated), but I think alternative assumptions exist that (1) students are exposed to much more print then they have been in previous years, and (2) parents may feel that reading to their children is the "one thing" they know how to do to support their children during distance learning. 

Yes, the bigger story is that the numbers are not where they need to be. Instead of here is a link to go to, it instead became look through 100 emails and see if you can find it.
