This video explains the unification of Germany in 1871. Broken into numerous states within the Roman Empire, Austria was the dominant power until the Reformation weakened them. Prussia became a powerful kingdom, and during the Napoleonic Wars, Germans began to unify. After Napoleon's defeat, the German Confederation struggled with internal rivalries, leading to calls for unification and reforms, leading to the revolution of 1848. Leaders like Otto von Bismarck were very important, advocating for unification. Bismarck started conflicts, such as the wars against Denmark and Austria, which led to the formation of the German Confederation. In 1871, following a successful war with France, the German Empire was created with Wilhelm I as the emperor, changing the balance of power in Europe and making Germany a dominant force.

This video explains the revolution led by Toussaint L'Ouverture and the challenges he faced in leading Saint Domingue towards independence. Initially, Toussaint believed that the survival of the colony and the ideals of freedom depended on mobilizing the black population to return to cane fields, which others disagreed with, leading to otherd believing it was slavery. In 1802, faced with a massive French force, Toussaint fought for three months before surrendering. Although he was treated with honor, he was arrested and sent to France. Following Napoleon's reinstatement of slavery in Guadeloupe, the black population began a revolution. Jean-Jacques Dessalines was appointed as the leader, employing the scorched earth tactic to drive out the French, leading to Haiti's declaration of independence in 1804.

The video explains the unification of Italy from the fall of Rome to the establishment of the Kingdom of Italy in 1861. The Italian Peninsula was broken into independent states. Napoleon's invasion caused a Kingdom of Italy to be formed, which started a push to unify it. After his defeat, Austria and other countries regained control, until the 1848 uprisings aimed to stop it. They were quickly halted, however. Key figures such as King Victor Emmanuel II and Prime Minister Cavour sought alliances with France, to counter Austria. The second war of Italian independence led to a victory, and Garibaldi's campaigns in Sicily also helped. By 1861, Italy was proclaimed a kingdom, though it still did not have Venice and Rome. Following various wars, including the Franco Prussian War, Italy secured Venice in 1866 and Rome in 1870. They were then established as a unified state. However, they faced internal challenges and regional issues.
