I am aware that there has to be guidelines upon which you grade this project but I want it to be based on writing skill and how we have applied everything we have learned this year. I think you should grade our rhetoric devices thoroughly. We should also be graded on how we applied what we learned from our discussion during the Socratic seminar and take advantage of the fact that we are kind of having our wish granted to have a chance to write freely. It shouldn't matter if it's an essay, or a poem, or a journal entry, or even a short story. And I feel we should definitely have a decent time period to work on this. In ways like poems, screen writes, short stories, song lyrics, etc. After doing this we could all come together and list ways this free writing was able to improve how we feel about assigned writing projects in school. I feel we would all improve drastically with our writing if we weren't given certain topics and writing requirements. I also do not think that we should be told to write an essay, but we can write like a journal entry, essay, poem or short story. Forms of evidence should be open as well, I understand the one book, one online or in a magizine etc. Relate the project to current events, not the same, but the student has the freedom to base their project on a current event. I do enjoy having the opportunity to pick a topic and create something creative BUT without guidelines or any sort of standard I feel lost.
