ADAB OF SEEKING KNOWLEDGE

ASSALAMUALAIKUM WBT
Today I would like to share about manners(adab) in seeking knowledge. Knowledge is unlimited, there is no end of it.So,seeking knowledge is not only for students,it applies to all of us. Hope this will give the ethusiasm for you to keep striving in the challenging journey!

KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge( 'ilm) is often associated with factual and informational knowledge- but that is nothing compared to the actual knowledge that needs to be sought; the knowledge of the Ultimate Truth that benefits the seeker in the Hereafter. Seeking knowledge is also a part of ibadah.

Seeking knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim. The first word revealed to our beloved Prophet s.a.w was the word ‘Iqra’ - Read! Indeed, reading is an essential part of attaining knowledge. The commandment for us to read is essentially a call for us to seek knowledge, expand our understanding, analyse God’s creation and think and reflect on the universe and our existence. However, we sometimes forget in our enthusiasm to quench our thirst for knowledge that:

الأدب قبل الطّلب

Etiquettes come before seeking knowledge.

One of the most significant struggles any intelligent person should undertake is to acquire excellent etiquette in one’s character. Both the Law of Islām and sound reason testifies to its high importance and academics and experts alike are vocal in congratulating those who possess good manners. There are a lot of Muslim scholars that express how important is the manner in seeking knowledge, such as:

1️⃣ Ibn Al-Mubarak rh.a said, “Mukhlid Ibn al-Husayn once said to me,

'‘We are more in need of acquiring adab than learning Hadith’'.

2️⃣ Al-Haṣan رحمه الله said, “A man would have to spend years and then more years to refine his character.”

3️⃣ Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah رحمه الله said, “The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, with his manners, his life and his guidance, is the greatest template with which all things are compared. Whatever conforms to it is a most definitely the truth and whatever opposes it is void.”

4️⃣ Imam Zakariya al-Anbari rh.a said:

'‘Knowledge without Adab is like fire without wood, and Adab without knowledge is like a spirit without a body’'.

5️⃣ Imām ash-Shāfiʿī رحمه الله was asked, ‘How much do you desire good manners?’ The Imām replied, ‘When I hear a single letter of good manners that I have not heard before, every part of my body craves to hear it again and again to enjoy it.’ Imām was then asked, ‘How do you seek good manners?’ The Imām replied, ‘As a mother seeks her only child who is lost.’

6️⃣ ''Indeed the deen of Islam is itself manners, where anyone that surpasses you in manners, is better than you in deen''
(Ibn al-Qayyim).

7️⃣ Abu Huraira رضي الله عنه narrated, that the Prophet said:

“I have not been sent as a Messenger, except to perfect character (Akhlaaq)”

Outward Manners :

1. Repeat and Review

• Shaykh Faraz tells us that by repetition, even donkeys learn so there is no reason why we humans cannot learn through repetition.
• What do you have to review?
Key Concepts, conditions, and integrals because if you understand these clearly, you understand what you are studying
Definitions (e.g.What is Iman? What is Islam ?)

2. Take Notes
• Take notes while listening and make your own notes on readings
• Always have pen and paper to jot down the most important things described
3. Ask!
• The Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, “The cure for confusion is but to ask”.
• We shouldn’t be scared to ask questions from our teachers because if we don’t ask, it may lead to confusion and misunderstanding. We should also ask questions with proper manners.
4. Extra Readings
• Do extra readings in a guided way, not randomly.
5. Prepare for class
• It is best to read and understand the text of the section before the class begin
• When reading, you may encounter questions which you can then ask when given the opportunity
• Many Ulema say that one should prepare for five hours for each one hour of class, however, others have recommended less time for preparation.

It was narrated on the authority of Umar , who said:

“While we were one day sitting with the Messenger of Allah, there appeared before us a man dressed in extremely white clothes and with very black hair. No traces of journeying were visible on him, and none of us knew him. He sat down close by the Prophet , rested his knee against his thighs, and said, “O Muhammad! Inform me about Islam.”

The Messenger of Allah said, “Islam is that you should testify that there is no deity except Allah and that Muhammad is His Messenger, that you should perform salah, pay the Zakah, fast during Ramadan, and perform Hajj to the House, if you are able to do so.”

The man said, “You have spoken truly.” We were astonished at his questioning him (the Messenger) and telling him that he was right, but he went on to say, “Inform me about Iman.”

He answered, “It is that you believe in Allah and His angels and His Books and His Messengers and in the Last Day, and in qadar (fate), both in its good and in its evil aspects.” He said, “You have spoken truly.”

Then he (the man) said, “Inform me about Ihsaan.” He (the Messenger of Allah) answered, “It is that you should serve Allah as though you could see Him, for though you cannot see Him yet (know that) He sees you.”

He said, “Inform me about the Hour.” He (the Messenger of Allah) said, “About that, the one questioned knows no more than the questioner.” So he said, “Well, inform me about the signs thereof.” He said, “They are that the slave-girl will give birth to her mistress, that you will see the barefooted, naked, destitute, the herdsmen of the sheep (competing with each other) in raising lofty buildings.” Thereupon the man went off. I waited a while, and then he (the Messenger of Allah) said, “O Umar, do you know who that questioner was?” I replied, “Allah and His Messenger know better.” He said, “That was Jibril (the Angel Gabriel). He came to teach you your religion.”1
</sup>

#masjidcfsiium#fblive#14/01/21
- Ihsan is one of the pillars of din(religion)
- Ihsan based on hadith Jibril means that you worship Allah as if you see Him, but even if you don't see Him, know that He surely sees you. It is also explain the solely rukun of Ihsan.
- In other words, we must worship in the best manners and with the most sincere heart. It is because Allah loves His slaves doing one excellent practice more than doing a lot of practices. Allah looks at quality of our ibadah more than the quantity of our ibadah.
-We ought to worship Allah with Ihsan because in that way our ibadah is more likely witnessed and valued by Him.

By Ustaz Shapizan

-The birth of Prophet Muhammad SAW is actually the initial sign of Qiamah
- Explanation on the signs that Nabi had mentioned in hadith Jibril:
1)"They are that the slave-girl will give birth to her mistress... "
-It means that there will come the time mothers give birth to theirs children but their children grow up into rebellious child. They hurt their parents and treat them like lowly slaves.

2)"... that you will see the barefooted, naked, destitute, the herdsmen of the sheep (competing with each other) in raising lofty buildings.”
-It means that during this time, actually we can see in our current era, a lot of people compete in building skyscrapers, high towers and grand houses and they being proud with the buildings they made.

It shows that Allah is super merciful towards us that He told us about the signs of Qiamah despite we not knowing the exact time it will occur. He reminds us about the Day of Resurrection as we, human, are so forgetful and we easily ignore it. Moreover, He had also stated about the Qiamah many times in the Quran. It is all to encourage us to virtues and upgrading it gradually by time.

I hope this post can be a kind reminder for the all readers and we can share the good vibe to others as we remind others as well.
That's all for this time, assalamualaikum, thanks for your time and till meet again \(^0^)/

A good child to parent is like a mutual love

Family especially parent is the real symbolic of love. The first person who could ever teach us love would be them. Surely, not all parent is an expert in matter of raising child, there are even parent that fail in doing so. However, the fact that their blood runs through our vein will stay intact forever. Every effort they put into our growth is never little, the hardest time they had in process is hidden behind the most silent night when we are soundly dreaming. To reply back their affection that they has given to us, we should not take it as a weigh full responsibility yet a gift of appreciation. We give back the love to them in various forms. When talking about LOVE, it is always heart matter where quality is greater than quantity. Visiting them frequently, buying their favourite food, having good talk with them in the evening, making du'a for them, taking care the relationship with their family and friends, and the good deeds continue on, but these acts would be more meaningful if we do it SINCERELY. Genuine smile that appears on our parent face, that would be the best picture to save. But, the most special thing is that the contentment of our parent can be feel in our life as the happiness in their heart flows in ours and this is what barakah means.

What is the wisdom of the worship that we do?

These are some examples of the ibadah and its benefit to us.

1. Prayer :
When we pray in the best manner and we deeply focus in our prayers, it will keep us from the nature of abomination and wickedness.

2. Fasting :
People who fast especially in the month of Ramadan is those who have taqwa. Taqwa is the obedience to Allah SWT. It is because during fasting, we are not allowed to eat and drink in the day, so if we truly follow Allah's order and leaving His prohibition, we are among the people with taqwa. If we have taqwa, we will hope for Allah's forgiveness and we pray that we are kept away from punishment.

3. Zakah :
Our wealth come from Allah SWT because He is the owner of everything on the Earth and beyond it. He gives each and every of us our rizq. For example , when we get our allowance, some of the money could be others rizq. Not all of them is ours. So, Zakah purifies our property and when we give out zakah, Allah will expend our wealth even more.

4. Hajj :
When we are performing hajj, there are several prohibition that we must follow. Among those are speaking words of evil, fasik and debating over small matter. Fasik is when someone always make wrongdoings and do not be afraid of his or her sin. So, when we are restrained from doing such things, we will feel the peace and calmness in our life.

It is clear that Islam provides all the goodness to its followers even in worshiping Allah SWT. May Allah gives the best for all of us, amin.

Khushu' in prayers is achieved when the heart, mind, feelings and all the senses are submissive to Allah throughout the time of prayer.

During prayer, one is in direct contact with Allah. Throughout the establishment of prayer, a servant prays directly before Him.

7 Steps to Khushu' in Prayer:-

1. Finding Meaning (Understanding)
This matter should be started by understanding the meaning of the recitation (rukun qauli) and the meaning of each act in prayer. So, learn Arabic at least to know the meaning of the obligatory readings and circumcision in prayer.

2. Concentrate (Focus)
The second level is the concentration of the mind. Avoiding the interference of other things, so that his thoughts, deeds and speech work simultaneously - that is, focused entirely on the meaning of recitation and deeds in prayer.

3. Magnifying Allah ( Haibah)
This is what is meant by 'understanding'. For example, only people who know the king will speak with respect, fear, shame and humility. So, when people who know Allah say the word "Allahuakbar" , he not only knows the meaning (Allah is Great) but his heart also feels how great the power of Allah who has created himself, the universe, the hereafter and all creatures.

It is at that time that artistic and beautiful feelings radiate in the mind and soul that are impossible to happen outside of prayer.

4. Admiration and Fear of the Majesty of Allah (Khauf)
For example, we are afraid of the tiger because of its violence, but we fear Allah because of His greatness. Fearing the tiger, we ran away from it, but fearing God we came closer to it.

Fear will arise when one fears the wrath of God and His Hell.

This fear is translated in prayer by the act of standing upright, bowing the head, eyes looking to the place of prostration (not daring to look up), bowing as well as prostrating.

5. The Feeling of Hope in Allah
The feeling of hoping is the hope of a servant to receive God’s forgiveness, love and paradise.

If fear alone is allowed to dominate the soul, it is feared that bad and evil thoughts will arise against God.

Whereas in reality, God would rather forgive sins than punish His sinful servants.

6. Feeling shame and humble (Haya ') in prayer.
Shame and self-contempt is the culmination of all the feelings that arose before. Therefore it is NECESSARY to feel guilty towards God.

When there is a sense of guilt then there is a sense of shame.

The way to create a sense of guilt is to raise awareness (insaf) of
self-neglect, weakness in carrying out responsibilities, lack of sincerity, a lot of prejudice, impatience and resignation to destiny and a lot of "debt" to God. When prostrating, we put our head, forehead and the face that is always “above” (always respected) to the lowest place (place of prostration) .

7. Wearing The Most Comfortable And Most Beautiful Clothes During Prayer.
If possible, choose the most comfortable, pure and special clothes for prayer.

Choose clothes made of the finest material, which do not make us sweat when hot, are not loose or tight so as to interfere with the movement of prayer.

And also choose the most beautiful, perfect and reserved for prayer. Because our prayers are to face Allah, the Most Great King and Allah loves beauty.

"Innallah jamil, wa yuhibbu jamal: Allah is beautiful and loves beauty."

NOTE: For Muslimah, you can try 'telekung' Siti Khadijah collection which is very comfortable to use to perform prayers. It's worth a try.

Q: What is Hajj?

A: The Hajj, sometimes spelt Haj, is the annual pilgrimage to Mecca that Muslims are expected to make at least once in their lifetime. The word Hajj is an Arabic word, meaning ‘to intend a journey’.
Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam – the others are shahadah (declaration of faith); salat (daily prayer); zakat (giving of alms); sawm (fasting in Ramadan).

Q: When is Hajj?

A: The pilgrimage must take place during the month of Dhu al Hijja, the last month of the Islamic calendar. The rites of Hajj are performed from the 8th to the 12th of Dhu al Hijjah.

Q: Who should go on the Hajj?

A: It is mandatory for Muslim adults to go on Hajj at least once in their lifetime. They must be of sound mind and physically and financially capable of undertaking the journey. Those who complete the pilgrimage can add the title Hajji to their names.

Q: How did Hajj start?

A: The rites performed at Hajj today were established by the Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) but, based on the Qur’an, they can be traced back to the Prophet Ibrahim, (alaihis salaam), also referred to in English as Abraham.
Muslims believe that Ibrahim (alaihis salaam) was ordered by Allah to leave his wife Hajar and his son Ismail alone in the desert of ancient Mecca. In search of water, Hajar desperately ran seven times between the two hills of Safa and Marwah but found none. Returning in despair to Ismail, she saw the baby scratching the ground with his leg and a water fountain sprang forth at the site.
This is the Well of Zamzam in the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca. Pilgrims visit the well while performing Hajj or the Umrah pilgrimage to drink its water.

#CHECK IT OUT! #some acronyms about Hajj
---> https://youtu.be/xd9qJKCiVSw

1️⃣Ihram: When they arrive in Mecca, pilgrims enter the state of ihram (purity) for the Hajj pilgrimage. Men must wear the ihram garments consisting of two white, seamless sheets wrapped around the body, and sandals. As well as purity, this clothing symbolises equality and unity as there are no visible reminders of class, wealth, status or culture. Requirements for women are less strict and they usually dress in white with only faces and hands uncovered. While in the state of ihram, pilgrims must – among other things – not cut their nails or hair, not engage in sexual activity, argue or fight.

2️⃣Tawaf: Each person walks counter-clockwise seven times around the Ka’aba (the cube-shaped building and the direction of prayer for Muslims everywhere) in Masjid Al-Haram. The Ka’aba was built by Ibrahim (alaihis salaam) and is the most sacred site in Islam.

3️⃣Al-Safa and Al-Marwah: Pilgrims run seven times between the mountains of Al-Safa and Al-Marwah as Hajar did during her search for water.

4️⃣Mount Arafat: Pilgrims go to the plains of Mount Arafat on 9 Dhu al Hijjah, where the Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) gave his last sermon, to stand in vigil.

5️⃣Stoning the Devil: After Arafat, they move to Muzdalfah and then to Mina to perform a symbolic stoning ritual in which they fling pebbles at three walls known as jamarat. This symbolises how the devil tried to mislead Ibrahim (alaihis salaam) from following Allah but was fought off when the prophet threw stones at him on three occasions.

6️⃣Eid ul Adha: The tenth day of the month of Dhu al-Hijja marks the start of the three-day festival of Eid ul Adha (the Feast of Sacrifice). The pilgrims perform the ritual of animal sacrifice (Qurbani) and continue with other rites to complete their Hajj.

7️⃣Qurbani: Qurbani, or Udiyah as it known in Arabic, commemorates the sacrifice Ibrahim (alaihis salaam) was willing to perform of his son Ismail (alaihis salaam) for Allah, who spared his son by sending down a ram to take his place.

Five Important Spiritual Lessons from Hajj

1. We are all equal as humans

Rich or poor, old or young, millions of Muslims from across the world, from all walks of life and every corner of the world unite to perform the holy pilgrimage, reminding us that in the eyes of Allah (swt) we are all equal as human beings. As Allah (swt) tells us in the Holy Qur’an:

‘O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.’ (49:13)

In his final sermon in Makkah, Prophet Muhammad (swt) repeated this message, reminding his followers to treat women equally and not to distinguish between race, skin colour or nationality, as the only thing that distinguishes us is our taqwa (God-consciousness or piety).

2. Allah (swt) is All Forgiving

Undertaking Hajj is obligatory for any able bodied, sane Muslim who can afford the journey. When we undertake this duty, all of our sins are forgiven. Every prior sin is wiped clean as though we were a new-born child or new Muslim, subhanAllah! How merciful is Allah (swt)!

3. With hardship comes ease

One of the many stages of Hajj is the running between mounts Safa and Marwa, as Hajar (as) did. As one of the most revered women in Islam and the wife of Prophet Ibrahim (as), Hajar’s story is one of hardship, endurance and ultimately hope and patience. When we run between these two mountains, we are reminded of the struggles she faced. Tired and thirsty in the desert with a new-born baby – Prophet Ismail (as) – Hajar ran in search of water. Yet her patience and hope were rewarded when a spring burst forth offering holy Zamzam water. This part of Hajj serves as a reminder that as we go through the trials and tribulations of life, things will get better: ‘For indeed, with hardship [will be] ease’ (Holy Qur’an, 94:5-6).

4. We are stronger than Shaytan

Another important lesson from Hajj is offered during the ‘Stoning of the Devil’. As we throw these stones, we remind ourselves that we are ultimately stronger than Shaytan, alhamudlillah. Although he may tempt us, it is up to us to seek refuge in Allah (swt) from his evil and stand strong as with His help we can deafen our ears to Shaytan’s whispers.

 5. Allah (swt) will test us, but He is always with us

Hajj itself is physically and emotionally demanding but the reward is unlike any other, subhanAllah! During this period in particular when we sacrifice an animal, we commemorate the actions of Prophet Ibrahim (as) and how he almost sacrificed his son Prophet Ismail (as). What this story teaches us is that Allah (swt) will test us but Al-Rahman, Al-Raheem is always with us, looking out for us, subhanAllah!
