Reducing plastic waste in our daily lives, especially single-use plastics, is one possible climate justice action I want to commit to. I'm going to hold myself accountable for my commitment by actively looking for reusable alternatives wherever I can and by making more ecologically friendly decisions, such as always carrying a reusable shopping bag and water bottle with me.

In addition, I want to inform and inspire my loved ones about the detrimental effects of plastic trash. This commitment is crucial because cutting back on garbage made from plastic helps lessen air pollution, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and protect wildlife and fisheries from pollution.

The best thing I can do to foster climate justice at home is to use less energy, especially electricity. I'll unplug any gadgets that aren't in use to cut down on carbon emissions, as fossil fuels provide the majority of our energy. Small actions taken on a daily basis can make a significant effect in addressing climate change. The majority of electricity is still generated by burning coal, oil, or gas, which emits carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide, two potent greenhouse gases that blanket the Earth and trap the sun's heat. To put it briefly, burning of fossil fuels significantly pollutes the atmosphere. For this reason, it's critical to disconnect all electronics when not in use in order to save energy and protect the environment.

Appropriate disposal methods that also aid in reducing the effects of climate change are among the best things that climate justice has offered and will continue to offer. Proper waste disposal is integral to climate justice because it helps mitigate climate change, protect the environment, and support community health and equity.

First, I can commit into this promise by educating myself with the local waste management rules and programs related to it like recycling, by knowing the different rules I can dispose my waste properly. The next thing I will do is separating my waste or trash into where they belong for example, the recyclabes, non-recyclabes, and compostables. By reducing my plastic consumption and using reusable bags and tumblers when drinking, avoiding the plastic water bottles can also help. Lastly, I will educate the people regarding Climate Justice, it causes, effects, and solutions. I can educate them how to do a proper waste disposal, I will share my knowledge with this topic with them, my friends, family, and the other members of the community for a better future. Education promotes better waste management techniques and motivates us to take a better action. One way to lessen the experience of climate change is by segregating out trash, which can help to spread our trash anywhere and can cause flood disease, etc., and also like waste management.

I will apply the basic waste management in my day to day life. Using the 3 r’s which is the reuse, reduce, recycle in sorting out the trash. This not only helps the land form but also water form to keep a safe and a healthy environment for us.

Why: Plastic waste is a big problem because it leads to a lot of pollution, especially in our oceans. When plastic ends up in the water, it can harm animals like fish, turtles, and birds who might eat it or get stuck in it. This pollution not only affects marine life but also makes the water dirty and unsafe.

How: I will stop using single-use plastics and switch to reusable items like grocery bags, containers, and water bottles in my daily life. I'll also talk to my family and friends about the harm plastic waste causes and encourage them to do the same.

Saving energy, 3rs and walking/ cycling

These are the easy ways but it is a big contribution to the environment, do you know that saving electricity can also produce pollution and greenhouse gas emissions? That is why in our household we observe these practices, We turn off appliances when not in use (ex. TV, fan, air conditioner, etc) we also switch off the bathroom lights and bedroom lights before leaving and leave 1 light on in our house before going to bed. It does not only save energy but it also reduces electricity bills! 3rs REDUCE: reduce the use of plastics and use of paper and other materials instead. Plastics would take more than a decade to decompose and plastics can kill water animals. So we use paper bags, tote bags, and metal straws.

Reuse: Reusing household items, helps reduce the amount of waste. As shown in the picture the old or unfit clothes were given to charity rather than thrown it.

Recycle Recycling products, Old products to new materials or purposes. (ex: Glass, Cardboard, etc.)

Lastly walking or using of bicycle rather than riding a motorcycle, car, or other form of vehicle as it produces pollution. You are not only saving the environment but also you are practicing cardio. Helps you have a healthy body and a better environment.

There are a lot of benefits when doing easy practices for the environment or reducing climate change. It benefits your physical health and also makes you physically fit, It helps you save money from high electricity bills, you also are saving the water animals, reduce the waste and also help the people.

My Climate Justice Promise I can do as a student, is to make use of reusable materials. That being having my own water bottle instead of buying plastic bottles everyday that contains water. Another thing is that I have my own bags and containers that are long lasting and can be used for different everyday things like shopping/storing food etc. By maintaining the use of reusable materials, you're also avoiding in the use of plastic, and that itself is already a good contribution in reducing damages to the environment.
