The Louisiana Purchase was a purchase of land by the US from France in 1803. It was considered one of the best land deals in history because of how cheaply they bought the land compared to how much you have to pay today. The land that was bought later became known as all or most of the 15 states.

In 1804, Thomas Jefferson started the expedition not long after the Louisiana Purchase. Meriwether Lewis and William Clark were sent to explore new land and make connections with native american tribes. The journey began in St. Louis, Missouri. They faced many hardships along the way, including bad weather, dangerous landscapes, and tribes they had never met before. The expedition had a huge and lasting impact on the US. Their discoveries are what shape America today.

Increased voting rights (1828)

Voting was mostly for white men who owned land until the 1820s. Then there was a huge shift where if you were a citizen, you could vote instead of basing it on land ownership. Even though at this time women and people of color couldn't vote, these new voting rights led to the extension of suffrage for many decades afterward.

The Indian Removal Act was an act that made it possible for the federal government to force Indians out of their homes. This was called the Trail of Tears because they walked over 1,000 miles during the harsh winter. The Trail of Tears gave better views of the extreme human cost of the westward expansion and the policy of Indian removal.

People thought that it was America's "destiny" to spread democracy and capitalism all over North America. But as these people spread throughout the new land, the Native Americans who lived there before were forced out of their homes. This resulted in bad events like the Trail of Tears. Although the movement was the start of a new era for North America, many people were hurt in the course of it all.

Invention of cotton gin (beginning in 1793)

This took place in 1793. Eli Whitney was the founder of the Cotton Gin, which had a huge impact on the economy and the system of slavery. This machinery made cotton farming a lot more profitable, mostly in the southern states where the climate was perfect for cotton farming. Although there were some negative effects as well. The invention caused the number of enslaved people in the South to drastically increase. The conflicts that came from this were a huge part in leading to the Civil War.

This was basically just the beginning of new machinery and factories, making for faster production of goods. This led to the growth and inventions of many different types of machines, like the power looms and spinning machines. This also led to women being able to work instead of being unemployed. But with factories came dangerous working conditions because the air quality was very poor.

This was the act that led to the end of slavery throughout the Americas. Black and white leaders joined together to fight for an end to slavery everywhere. It was harder to get the southern states to agree to this because they were the ones who "needed" them. So they kept passing stricter laws to try and keep slaves. It took many more decades for slavery to end for good, but once it ended, everything was worth it.

In 1836, Texas gained independence from Mexico after a revolution. But President John Tyler wanted the annexation of Texas, making it the 28th state. Texas claimed the Rio Grande, but Mexico said it was the Nueces River farther north. So he sent troops to that area. The war officially started in 1846 when Mexico attacked US troops. It lasted until 1846 and ended with a treaty where Mexico gave up almost half of its territory.
