I am a teacher who is passionate about working with under-served and marginalized populations. I strive to provide access and opportunity equitably to all students. I hope to be a strong advocate for my students and, more importantly, help my students advocate for themselves and others. My people are those who "fight the good fight" with me in regard to educational equity. I come from an upper-middle-class/suburban school where I had the newest technologies and every opportunity in the world -- the place where I also realized the vast inequities that lived in education. (Why did my peers and I have EVERYTHING while teenagers across town had NOTHING?) My dream is to provide a warm and welcoming community in my classroom, an environment where students feel valued and loved. My dream is to instill in my students a passion for using their voice to better their community -- in both the local and global sense. My dreams is for my students to become lifelong learners.

Where do I come from as a teacher? I come from the feeling of being uncomfortable in and with the institution of education; with a great love for real learning and growth. I have experienced education in many different settings, and highly value education from outside a classroom. For good or bad I bring the ethnic of hard work, the value of thinking about others more than myself, and a communal process. I have and continue to learn so much from my mentor teachers, I really am so awed by the impact these experienced educators I have been blessed to cross paths with on my journey have on the youth around them. If our society really valued youth in the way real educators do, we would have a very different country. I don’t have dreams because you never know your future, I just do the best I can each day.

My people are colleagues and students that I work with that challenge me, make me laugh, encourage me and make me want to be a better teacher. I've worked in education for about 15 years and have worked in several school districts. I realize there is no perfect place to work, but there are a lot of great qualities at PCSH. My dreams for my classroom is to provide a safe place where all students feel understood and challenged. It's a balance between pushing and guiding them. If language proceeds thought, then I have to help them have the language to develop insightful thoughts.

My people are the ones who support me in my role in the classroom- whether it is by giving my students emotional support or by walking by my classroom handing me copies for what I am teaching that day! I could not do this job without my people (I hope you know who you are). My people are students who are trying really hard to figure out who they are. And they struggle. Park Center has been my teaching home since 1989. I have seen the school become more diverse and seen administrators and teachers adapting and modifying constantly to serve and teach students in the most effective way. My dreams for my students is that they will truly embrace learning and use this passion to fuel their dreams.

Culturally responsive teaching is the type of teaching that, at it's root, helps students develop the skills and knowledge needed to succeed. It's skills-focused, with attention to the other things that are the buzz words: implicit bias, social justice, relationships, etc. Achieving equity means students get what they need to succeed. My dream is to never run out the energy and creativity it takes to support students in their learning. My dream is to never underestimate what my students are capable of so that I can keep challenging to understand what they can do.

Bringing my dreams to the classroom is important. If students know my experiences, struggles, and successes, they can relate. When we all relate to one another, learning happens. The more you get to know someone, the more you trust them. I also have to provide a high-quality classroom. I can't be buddy-buddy all the time.

I am a teacher who feels lucky to serve the interesting, diverse students at PC. My people include other teachers who are all doing their best work to make classroom experiences relevant, enriching, and growth-building for our students. As a teacher, I come from having taught in many schools and settings. In my classroom, I hope all of my students feel inspired - to be curious about learning and the world and to be motivated to improve their thinking and communication skills.

I am a teacher, but mostly a person who cares for others and for who they are. My people in my work place are very similar to my "people" in this world. People all trying, I hope at least, to make a better world in a variety of ways. I come from this place as a teacher and a person from years of experience and meeting so many different and unique people. My classroom I hope can continue to be a place where all people adults and students alike share experiences and learn from one another.

I am an EL Teacher who values making genuine connections with students and staff.

I am a teacher that is trying. I have reading people and sped people that are walking with me , guiding me, sharing experiences. I come from a place a whiteness and am learning and growing all the time to evolve into the kind of teacher I dream of being. I dream of being a teacher of a classroom where students are striving to read, wanting to share what they write, and our proud of their work. I dream of a classroom that is a community and my students feel welcomed supported, loved, and challenged. My classroom will one day be one where any student can learn more how to navigate the world and understand themselves a little bit better.

I am an educator and learner of and from my culturally resilient students. My people are fellow educators and students who work together and lift each other up to achieve our dreams. I come from a background of culturally, racially, linguistically and economically learning and teaching. My dreams for my classroom are that we continue to view each other from an asset based model, that each student brings with them learned and lived experiences including innovation, adaptability, critical analysis, cross cultural communication and teamwork.

I am a teacher who values the importance of an education and establishing a relationship with my students. If I can connect and let them know I care for them as people and encourage them to reach for the stars then I hope they will continue to be successful at what they want to do in life.

I ama teacher working with a different set of students this year, those students who need a little extra help a motivation to succeed. This has stretched my skills to find common ground and get my students to take an active role in their learning as opposed to a passive role. Many of them want to sit back and let the learning come to them instead of the other way around. Giving my students a little more leeway in work completion has helped them to be more active in their learning.

I am a teacher who values reaching all students with my lessons. My people are the struggling readers in special education at Park Center along with the special ed staff. I come from small town Wisconsin where I grew up going to schools that were 95% white, middle class students. I have taught for 10 years now in schools with the majority of students receiving free and reduced lunch and the majority of students being students of color. I am grateful for this opportunity. I want all students to develop a love of reading along with improving their reading skills. It is my goal to reach all students from all backgrounds and cultures. I am continuing to use the teachers around me as resources to help improve upon my teaching to include culturally relevant material and delivery of instruction for all students.

I am a teacher and a learner who is very curious about other people. My people are my students and community members. I come from a family of really curious people and I fall back on this all the time in the classroom. Being interested in other people and where they are from, what makes them tick, and what their interests are can help me create a culturally responsive classroom. My dreams are that my classroom can be a place where kids want to come and feel like they are given things that they will need to be successful people.

Teaching history
Teaching history
As a history teacher I am always working to connect students to history. I am always searching for ways to connect them to the curriculum. That pushes me to search for as many anecdotes, personal and through my own studies. I believe that our history can connect to all history. I do this through source analysis as this is the way to truly connect to the creation of history. This allows me to empower students to develop the skills to become historians themselves.

EL Teacher at PC. I am striving to make sure that I am on top of all of the changes that occur in the school and with my students. I have a smaller classs, but they are still very important to our school. I fight for equity for my students so they have a fair chance to graduate on-time. My goal is to make sure students understand what they have to do in order to graduate and make sure they don't miss out on opportunities.

Who am I? A slightly experienced teacher, always learning from my veteran teachers. Reflective and cooperative. Highly driven to scaffold students in achieving academically, socially and cognitively at grade level acting in our roles as gate keepers to hold open as many doors for them as possible. Who are my people? Educators that work as a team to bring up all of our kids. My co-teacher and collaborating educators in and out of my current school who share their ideas one-on-one.

I am a veteran teacher who continues to choose to teach on the East Side of the District because my people - the racially diverse students and equity focused colleagues - are here. Although my life has not been easy, I realize I come from white privilege. Now I want to give back - and learn from my students and colleagues. My dream is for my students to be thoughtful, engaged global citizens and that they will finally dismantle the system of racial and economic inequality we have in the US and beyond.

As with all things in this profession, culturally responsive instruction brings with it a learning curve. I am continually amazed by my students and the wonderful diversity they bring to the table.
