I didn't realize the impact that that Twitter can have for educators. Hashtags are extremely useful to unit teachers with similar grade levels and learning goals. I also didn't know that there were grade-level Twitter chats. Also, you can post updates from your classroom on the account to communicate with students and/or parents. There is a lot of potential for education, outside of just communicating.

At first I viewed Twitter as being used only for classroom projects. For example, students take on the role of a person in history and pretend to be them. Now I have learned how I can use Twitter to connect with other educators and better myself as an educator through these connections. I can also use Twitter to communicate with students and parents.

Learning about Twitter in this way has really opened my eyes to the immense benefits that it holds as an educational tool. I have learned that Twitter is truly a place where I am able to enhance my professional development as well as expand my "Personal Learning Network". It is a place for teachers to learn from one another and share ideas through schools and grade-level specific classrooms. Educators from all over the world are able to connect and unite through something as simple as a hashtag. Twitter is also a place to post updates from the classroom in a fun and exciting way, as well as a a great communication tool between the classroom and the students' families.

Before this activity I think I saw Twitter as more of a risk than a useful tool for teachers. After doing this activity I have learned about the countless ways twitter can be used to help educators around the world connect and collaborate. It is a great way to share ideas with families and with other teachers.
