During spring break, I traveled to Ohio to visit my cousins. Prior to our dinner reservation, I asked my cousin for a can of soda. Thereafter, she gave me a confused expression and told me that they use the word "pop" to refer to a carbonated drink. Regional variations are prevalent regarding a sweetened, carbonated beverage (McConchie, n.d.).

A "bubbler" is referred to as a drinking fountain.

After finishing my classes for the day, I headed to Adele H. Stamp Student Union to grab a bite. While waiting for my food to get prepared, a visitor from the UMD tour group approached me and asked where the bubbler was located. I was confused at first but I noticed that he was pointing towards his empty water bottle. After providing him directions, I asked him where he was visiting from and he told me that he was born and raised in Wisconsin. This is a prime example of regional dialect.

Map Reference:
(Steinbrinck, 2015).

There are two pronunciations regarding the word caramel: car-mul and care-uh-mel. Sarah used the following pronunciation: car-mul. In the DMV (D.C., Maryland, and Virginia) area, residents predominantly use this pronunciation: care-uh-mel. After asking Sarah questions, she disclosed that she grew up in Montana.
