Day 1:
As I was walking to the school ( I live 3 blocks away from it) on a Thursday morning I was thinking about how would the children respond to my presences in the classroom. I was worry maybe they wouldn't like another grown up in their class.
However, I walked in, and sat behind the class, I was hoping to be invisible for them. But as we know children are curious by nature.. So as I was taking down notes and appreciating the teacher's lesson, one by one ( in pairs) came up to me and ask me ramdom commun questions like : What is this? (at they pointed at my pencil box) or What's your name? Do you want to see what Im doing?
And just like that they took me in as one more in their "crew".

Day 2
It's Tuesday morning (11.30am) and I'm walking to school again.
By now students know who I am (especially because they have seen me walking around the school, as I'm a teacher there now too) They see me and say Hello! some of them came up to me and give me a big hug! I'm stunning, I can't believe it, children have such a gentle soul!
The teacher carries on with her lesson, but some of the kids can't help they urge to speak to me again, they look at my hair, my back pack, my notes....They can't help their curiosity!
I play with them, I help them with their assignment and just like that time flies! And it's time to say goodbye! I can't wait to put into practice everything I have learnt

I have to be honest, I wasn't nervous before but now I am. What if I am not good enough? What if I made a mistake choosing this profession? Ok. Don't panic, the children like you, just go ahead an enjoy this time in your life!
I enter the class, the kids said hello but their teacher isn't there yet... They ask me about her and I say, she is coming now, let's all hold hands and sing the hello song!
We sing, the teacher arrives, and she helps me with the warm up activity, I ask the children: How is the weather today ? (pointing at the window) Is it cold (I gesture shiver) or is it hot (I gesture hot)?

As a transition we watch a video about hot and cold. (we only watched until minute 2.21)

Then we move to the tables and students open their student book.
We learn about cold and hot and the type of clothes we wear according to the weather ( jumper, coat, hat, sandals)
The students divided into 4 groups make 4 poster with the image of hot and cold and the clothes images given to them.
After we finish, coloring, cutting and pasting it was time to say goodbye!

This first experience was very intense! I felt a bit confuse and I realized that team work can be a bit of a problem when all the children want the same image and there is only 3 .... Let's hope for the best for class 2!

There was also the detail that Santi, a kid with special needs seemed a littlle off that day, so keeping an eye on him and working with the rest of the class was a bit of challenge for me.
There was also the video, after they watched they wanted to play it again and again, so it was interesting to turn off the video and have them start with the activity I had designed.

Class 2
On this class, the aim was for stuednts to exemplify and understand the difference between cold and hot...
We started the class with the routine song. Then I ask the students about the weather and invite them all to gesture cold and hot. Then I showed them two pictures, one picture of fire and another of and icecube and ask them is the fire cold or hot? (hot) is the ice cold or hot? (hot).
As a transition i show them a picture of their book and ask them what they saw... (they could see hot and cold) This time I didn't pronounce the words myself but instead I gesture so that they could produce the target language themselves. This was success as they guess right and then we move on to a sticker activity on their books, Here they had to place the stickers on the ice picture or the fire one, the new vocabulary was ice cream, chocolate and snow.

I thought that making the kids move around a use their body to learn it would be a good idea.
I brought the images from the previous class "hot" and "cold" and also I brought a few clothes items (boats, sandals, jumper, shorts, -t- shirt) for them to pile them according to the image. This activity was fun, because they got to wear the clothes and recycle the names of all the items as they wore them. They also learnt new structures such as "yes I am" and "No I am not".
Needless to say they had a lot of fun!
As a follow up activity , we did the unit Project to close this topic : A winter hat!

As time is passing by, I realize that teaching kindergarten is more of a playful environment in which planning activities that involve kinesthetic learning is one of the main ingredients to a successful planning recipe.

The only down side I can see to this class, was that for a minute there the kids run out of control jumping into the clothes and taking off their shoes, but at the same time I believe that those 3 minutes of distractions is also a bit of a mind break for them that makes them laugh and enjoy of the class from a more relaxed view. So a tiny down side but it wasn't hard to get them to start working on the next activity.

This last class was a very interesting experience, especially because I had a visitor! Ceci Zamborain from Lenguas Vivas stopped by to watch my lesson.

As you may imagine, I was a tiny bit nervous for having one of my mentors watch me and also because it was my last class and I wanted to be fun and enjoyable for the kids so that they could keep a positive memory of me.

Over the little time I spent in Kindergarten, the one thing that kept tumbling in my head was: "OMG Kinder is more difficult than I expected".
I never thought that Kindergarten was going to be such a challenge! I thought that with games, videos, coloring and so on the classes were going to be very simple, but I was wrong! For the very first time I felt that I didn't have enough tools to teach English, or I was worry at all times that maybe I wasn't teaching well.
Teaching English to children is not as simple as I thought it would be... I can't highlight enough how important it is, as a teacher to take extra courses and try to gain more insights, and learn new teaching strategies to be ready to provide our students with the best learning language learning experience.
I used to think that once I graduate I was going to be ready to teach English, but now I came to realize that this is just the beginning of a life time profession.
