https://padlet.com/WoldeMolalignKorebtaw/About A retired clothing designer and men’s clothing retailer, Wolde Molalign Korebtaw has been inspired by Italian culture and fashion since he was a young man living in Asmara, the capital city of his native Eritrea. There, he often attended historic cinemas such as the Capitol Cinema Asmara to watch Italian films starring legendary actors such as Sophia Loren, Vittorio De Sica, and Alberto Sordi. Among other films, Wolde Molalign Korebtaw counts La Dolce Vita and Roman Holiday as favorites from this era. Mr. Korebtaw drew from Italian culture in his professional life, as well. As a fashion designer who owned and operated two men’s clothing shops over his career, he leveraged an expertise in the latest Italian designs to develop unique clothing that melded traditional Eritrean dress with European styles. He also drew inspiration from several well-known Italian designers of the time, including Giovanni Galiano and Paulo Giuseppe. In retirement, Mr. Korebtaw continues to explore Italian culture by reading classic Italian literature such as Dante’s Inferno and Le Confessioni d’un Italiano.
