1- Somatic: it regulates body actvities that are under consicous control, such as movement of skeletal muscles. Most of the time you have control over skeletal muscle movement but when your body is in danger the CNS may take over.
- you control your muscles voluntarily.
-reflex arc: the sensory receptor, sensory neuron, motor neuron, and affecter that are involved in a quick response to a stimulus.
2- autonomic: it regulates activities that are involuntary or not under concious control. You may not be aware of any of these activites like when you start to run, the autonomic nervous system speeds up your heart rate and blood flow to the skeletal muscles and slows down the contraction of smooth muscles in the digestive system.
-consists of two equally important part: symphatic nervous system and the parasymphatic nervous system.

When you step on a pin, sensory receptors stimulate a sensory neuron, which relays the signal to an interneuron within the spinal cord. The signal is then sent to a motor neuron which in turn stimulates a muscle that lifts your leg
