The site holds the greatest potential for long-term conservation of the distinctive and diverse biota of Sumatra, including many endangered species. The protected area is home to an estimated 10,000 plant species, including 17 endemic genera; more than 200 mammal species; and some 580 bird species of which 465 are resident and 21 are endemic. Of the mammal species, 22 are Asian, not found elsewhere in the archipelago and 15 are confined to the Indonesian region, including the endemic Sumatran orang-utan. Places as diverse and unique as the Pyramids of Egypt, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, Galápagos Islands in Ecuador, the Taj Mahal in India, the Grand Canyon in the USA, or the Acropolis in Greece are examples of the 1007 natural and cultural places inscribed on the World Heritage List to date.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) seeks to encourage the identification, protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage around the world considered to be of outstanding value to humanity. This is embodied in an international treaty called the Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, adopted by UNESCO in 1972.

Locals try to help the area by implementing ecoturism. One man (Darwin Ginting) owes an eco lodge. 
The advantages of eco-tourism in Sumatra would be that it would provide benefits (both finantial and ecological) to the place. People wouldn't need to go out for hunting or poaching anymore, they would have another way of increasing their income, what would have a great positive impact on the forest and its ecossystem. 
People use palm tree oil for making margarine, oil, butter and even cosmetics. 
I regard eco-tourism as an excellent opportunity for people to get to know different places, experience local culture, and show their respect towards the world we live in. It's high time we started to care a little more for the planet we live in and dicovered ways of getting to lnow places without damaging it more. 
In Argentina eco-tourism could be implemented in Iguazú falls for instance, taking people to trails inside the forest, openning eco friendly lodges, sharing about the cultural and ecological diversity found in there.

I believe that ecoturism is such a good idea since people can change the way they interact with nature. I think that with this new system we can continue visiting and admiring those beautiful places in that more conscious way in which with behave environmental friendily. 
In Argentina, this can be applied in the world heritage sites that we have in our country such as Iguazu Falls or Glaciers National Park where we can use green bags in order to deposit our own garbage, we can also recollect some reused materials so as to decelerate the global warming which causes many impacts on these two sites
